I'm completely discouraged now. I think I'm going to return this to Amazon. My TV is around 2008 - is it possible that the HDMI isn't compatible?
I can't imagine that's the case, particularly if you were able to get video with ChromeOS using the same cable/TV. There has to be something else going on here, but hard to track down since I can't reproduce it myself.

I'm a huge XBMC fan, so these forums came naturally to me. I am coming at this from a different angle than yourself though, and I would recommend OpenELEC over this setup if you are looking for a sturdy stand-alone. On that note, I'm not sure why I have to choose software decoding in my setup and that might be a reason right there not to go my way. This could be due to how the Haswell processors intoduce a new frequency scaling method, which is being supported in the latest 3.14.* kernels, named intel pstate. I coould be just experiencing some bugs being worked out. I dont know what kernel OpenELEC is on.
OE 4.0.4 is on 3.14.5 I believe, and 4.0.5 will be using 3.15. There's an Intel/Mesa driver bug that seems to be hitting some people but not others - I've been unable to reproduce it myself w/full hardware decoding (even VC-1). Intel is aware of the issue and it might even be fixed, just hasn't propagated down into OE yet.

Not sure what happened the first go around, but glad a factory reset + reloading OE fixed it. I'll look at the script and see where I can add some additional error checking to try and eliminate the issue in the future.
