I have a mythtv 0.27.0 backend, works great with myth frontend. I'm trying to get the live TV working in XBMC.

After installing like this:

sudo apt-get install xbmc-pvr-mythtv-cmyth

And then configuring and enabling the plug-in in XBMC's settings, XBMC hung, and then crashed. Now when I start up XMBC, it hangs on the splash screen and then crashes. There isn't anything in the log file that looks out of the ordinary (no errors) and I can't get XBMC to start for me to change configurations (debug or disable the add-on).

Am I forced to re-install XBMC?

you could go into the settings file which will be somewhere under ~/.xbmc/userdata/addon_settings/pvr.mythtv.cmyth and disable the addon.

But before that you might like to get a log. You can turn debug on for a crashing xbmc by the method described here:
