choose best resolution() does 2 different things currently, depending on whether you have hdtv modes enabled:

if you do not have an hdtv, then choose best resolution auto-switches between 4:3 and 16:9 assuming you have widescreen enabled within the ms dash.

if you do have an hdtv, then in addition it will choose the best screenmode based on the size of the movie. for instance, it will stay in 480p unless the movie is larger than 720x480, when it'll move to 540p (1080i) or 720p accordingly.

if you don't have widescreen enabled in the ms dash, or don't want auto widescreen switching to occur, then disable this option.

the name of this option will be redefined in due course to make it a bit more obvious.
