Kodi 14.0 Git: ad747d9 Compiled 23 Dec 2014. OS: Linux Mint 17.1 (Based on Ubuntu 14.04). Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic.
No information about PVRs show up on Kodi. However, by running, on command line:
sudo apt-cache search pvr
I was able to establish that numerous PVRs were available.
Hence installed kodi-pvr-mythtv and kodi-pvr-iptvsimple via the command line.
Now these two PVRs show up in 'Enabled addons'.
'Live TV' is enabled in the settings and Kodi has been rebooted.
Despite all the above the main menu link, previously called 'Live TV' is not evident.
So, in summary:
1. Non-enabled PVRs don't list at all.
2. Impossible to install PVRs in the Kodi GUI because of (1) above so installation only possible via command line.
3. When PVRs & 'Live TV' are enabled still don't see 'Live TV' menu item.
Further, When I set up MythTv I couldn't see any option for entering the username and password.
Can anyone throw any light on the above please.

You need to make sure the API is turned on in myth backbend with pin 0000
Oh and in ubuntu the pvr addons are separate packages so yes you do need to install them in addition to kodi.

Oh and in kodi I think the main menu items are now 'tv' and 'radio', although this may be skin dependent.

yup, same here. but after verifying that HTS TVheadend was fully working (webinterface ok, streaming to my VLC on the PC working) I began to suspect this might be an issue with the default skin. I then installed one of the other skins available and voila: TV did show up in the homescreen. I then switched back to the default skin and TV was still visible. rebooted: TV gone again...

In confluence 'TV' does not appear until pvr has started up, and this takes some time.

You posted immediately below someone who had a problem and who fixed it. You said you had the same problem so I suggested you apply the same fix.
The mythtv addon is new in helix, although is also available for gotham.
You don't need to enter a user name or password because the new addon uses the mythtv api, not the cmyth library. If myth backend and pvr.nythtv are configured properly, it works fine.

I had the same issue on earlier attempts with Kodi 14.0 on ATV 2 and Mythtv 0.28 backend
One or both of these fixed my issue:
Be sure to include the backend's MAC address in addition to IP address in the config
Ensure LiveTV option is enabled - when I disable the TV menu disappears

I had this problem too. I first realized that different skins showed live tv in the home screen, but the epg was not there. I installed the latest version of Kodi (over the old version) and changed the home from default (Confluence) to CCM Helix. It looks a lot like Confluence, the default, but is much more configurable. Especially the part about being able to set add-on shortcuts to things bookmarked as favorites, as well as much better control over how the addons show up on the home screen.
Anyway, at that point it looks like my PVR add on WMC-Client showed up as disabled. It wasn't on the default confluence skin. When I enabled it live TV started working again.
I think there is an issue with the default confluence skin (and possibly Kodi interaction.) WMC-Client is also alpha or beta, but since others are having issues with other PVR add onsm it's probably not the pvr client itself.

Default confluence doesn't show the live tv menu on the home page unless the PVR system is actually set up and working. It has been like this since helix I think. It can be confusing.
