Release Arctic: Zephyr

You actually test it on latest git version. Still a few bugs that I need to fix up and only works for movies/tvshow type widgets (this is the same with the other widget style too -- just need to get around to adding music widgets).

Loving this skin! thanks for all your work!

Would someone mind helping me with the correct code to add so that I can add a playlist.xml and plugin to my home menu?

Thanks

Just add it through the home customisation window. In the right pane where you can select "Common" shortcuts move the selection up to the spincontrol arrows and then you can cycle through different categories. There is one called "playlists" that shows all your playlists, and one called add-on which shows all your addons.

Soon... I will put in a pull request to transifex once the skin strings are finalized. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for addressing my questions. I understand with keeping the texture count down. Probably keeps the skin nice and snappy? The codecs really only throw me off when it says "dca". I don't really know what that is. If I start playing the title though, it will change it to dtshd_ma, usually.

I added the shutdown menu to the homescreen. Thanks for the little bit of code.

I can live with turning off all the library update notifications. I'll get used to it. It's better than having them intrude on some viewing, since my library updates often without my input due to some automated "stuff".

One more observation:

TVshows don't seem to be using Season Posters. Intentional, or not yet implemented?

I think it looks much better when you put the record and the weather layer directly in the header.

Thanks for the reply, I will check into that.

Do you have any idea why my Skin Menu is so slow, its a good 20 or 30 seconds between selecting an item and seeing a response.

Thanks

Other skins will display the full image regardless of the image specs, whereas I notice this and Eminence it's either fixed to poster dimensions or a square in Eminence's case.

Really the only think about the skin that irks me. Smile
I understand the irritation, but using "keep" aspectratio rather than scale has its own aesthetic problems like alignment etc. I'm using 1:1.5 ratio for posters which is themoviedb standard (1000x1500px posters).

I'm also using strict visibility conditions based upon content type. It is the add-ons that abuse content types in order to try and get more viewtypes available. Many will set either movies or episodes as the content type when they dont actually provide suitable artwork (posters for movie content and landscape thumbs/fanart for episodes content). I've changed the thumbnail view to use keep aspect, but the other viewtypes I wont - I fixed a visibility condition in list view that was showing for some content that it shouldn't.

I only see Big List view and Thumbnail now as an option...

I guess what I'm talking about is how Aeon Nox or Confluence handles it in list view. I think their solution is that the image display box has a fixed horizontal length and the vertical length changes depending on the image. For example, I select the Twitch app which has a square image, then I select the games list which displays posters without anything being cut off, then the individual streamers have a background image that is generally 16:9. During all of this the actual list never has to move left or right, there is just a fixed horizontal length and stays the same. Their lists are generally more left centered as well which may be why they're able to do it this way.

But I know 0 about designing skins for Kodi so I have no idea how hard something like that actually is to implement lol.

Can I ask how did you link your Imgur account? and can others be linked same way?

I'm not sure what you mean? Seeing a response with what? You need to be more specific.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Its not a matter of difficulty, its a matter of IMO it looks damn ugly when the aspect ratio keeps changing all over the place and I wont support anything like that. If the content supports posters (i.e. the content type is movies/tvshows/seasons) then it can use a viewtype that uses poster aspects - if the content supports landscape art like fanart/thumbnails then it can use a viewtype with landscape aspects... If it has no content type then it can use big list and thumbnails only.

you put the album code between [ imgur ] [/ imgur ] tags (without the spaces of course).

e.g. the url for the arctic zephyr album is http://imgur.com/a/oLrr7#0
so I take the oLrr7 and put it between imgur tags.

Sorry, I seem to be having an issue with widgets and configuration. The widgets take a very long time to display any information. There is just a box that says "loading widget"

After 30 seconds or so the widget shows up.

Same thing with the settings menu, if I try to customize anything with the skin. For example when I select "Customize Home Menu" again I have to wait 30seconds or so before the menu loads, and any changes I make I have to wait.

I am running on Openelec 5.02.

Thanks

so happy to have the classic widgets back Smile

spitballing a few ideas you've likely have already tried. i wonder if it might look better if the space between the bottom panel and the poster panel was removed. maybe then have the plot information slide up from between them. i like how the home screen cycles the through the movies/shows. it was a little strange to press up and not have the first poster highlighted like it is in mkii but after thinking about it it seems right to have it the way you have it now.

a small request. any chance of getting a version of the fade covers from mkii coupled with the dark theme at some point?

all in all i can't say how happy i am with what you've done. cheers.

I propose we add a menu icon and now playing widget.

Hmmm I'm not sure, that seems really strange to take that long. If I think of anything I'll let you know.

Yeah I'm on the fence about which item to focus onup... I could force the first one, but then you lose the spot you were on and you cant press up to select the movie that the fanart is etc.

Fade covers are a maybe, but not priority right now.

What about something like this for not having spaces... You can try it on latest git commit -- let me know what you think. I'm not sure if it makes the navigation more confusing or not.

Looks good. Definitely been thinking about adding a now playing widget, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Like the idea of having icons but I have a few concerns with how effective its going to be with using the skin shortcuts script... I have a feeling its going to create complications with selecting full colour icons for menu items by default (i.e. not monochrome white icons) and colordiffuse switching for themes. I'm going to have to do some tests before I can commit to icons.
