I wanted to start a thread here to discuss the dvd playback problems plauging some of us. I have tried the suggestions of rolling back libdvdcss-2.dll to the 13858 via WISo suggestions. No Luck. I have grabbed teh SVN of the source and compiled it and have the same problem. I am looking for some insider information before I rip apart the DVD player myself and do a DIFF between 13858 and 14125.

why dont you elaborate on your specific problem. a debug log file is always useful. it seems to be working for me with the current svn.

I just tested with rev14642 play back works for .img I am confident that iso playback works as well. I have no .iso files to test but there shouldn't be any real difference unless the container .iso is missing misplaced in the svn.
you need to do a full fresh install of a newer svn version then reproduce this bug if it sill exists for you with debug log and instructions.

The only thing I can see in the DVD playback portion is on line 607 "#
08:45:33 T:520 M:703213568 ERROR: Did not get surface for thread 520l" I have tried to realte this back, and I have current stable drivers for my video card. I am going to try the betas and see what I can come up with...

I restored from the system for a base image, installed latest video drivers, the last DX 9.0C and tried with a fresh compile from SVN (day before yesterdays code). I still get the same error. I am assuming since this is working for others I have some weirdness going on in the machine.
I tried a separate DVD player (there is an LG int here now and I had a Sony laying around).
Can I get some guesses as to where I can go next?

i've not played an actual disc in ages. but the few img and iso files that i've tested have been working since the last fix. for giggles, copy the entire video_ts folder to your hard drive and play it that way. (i've not played a video_ts folder either and wont be able to for about 10 hours until i get home from work.)

ISO and DVD playback work fine for me with the recent svn.
Which drive letter does your DVD drive have? According to the log it's D:\. If this isn't your log you're still using a libdvdcss-2.dll from the t3ch build which drive is hardcoded to d:\.

Try the new build package which was released yesterday. If this doesn't work after a clean install (remove userdata etc) than I'm out of ideas.
Do you have more than one dvd drive or something like daemon tools running?
