I've installed XBMC for windows and tried MediaPortal and both work ok to begin with ... But for the life of me I can't get any sound. I have a Realtek onboard sound via optical cable to my receiver. Everything works great with Powerdvd and Media Player. But not for XBMC or MP. I tried switching what options I could see in the latter programs. Perhaps someone else has some insight or have run into this before and could give the Newb a helping hand.

Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H

"Integrated ALC889A 8-Channel High Definition audio with 106 dB Signal to Noise ratio, fully support Blu-ray/ HD DVD playback"

Amd Athlon X2 5200+
2 GB Ram

Optical cable from PC to Receiver.

I hope this info will help. I Still can't get sound in either program. SOME help would be appreciated.

well sometimes we forget the most obvious stuff. i do it sometimes
even if i know what im doing. happens to everyone Smile

if you enable debugmode from within xbmc options, do you get any clues
from the log file ?

Might be some driver problems or xbmc issues, i havent tried it with digital audio. revert to analog audio in the wait Wink
