[AirPlay][Warning] Don't update to iOS9 if you want AirPlay to Kodi
#46
Hi, I got audio working without metadata and some initial stutter with iOS 9.0.1 by building with latest shairplay and removing the "_airplay._tcp" service announcement.

But it still breaks support for video and photos?

I don't know if it's of any importance, but I noticed that iTunes version 12.3 (the one that's optimized for iOS 9) comes with Bonjour version 3.1.0.1.

Previous iTunes versions came with Bonjour version 3.0.0.10.

It's a version of this.
It is not actually integrated with kodi, but just takes over the screen when activated. The normal kodi remote and overlays won't be usable.

There are a few solutions to airplay mirroring (rPlay is another), but they are stand alone programs and they use a library extracted from the ATV to handle the authentication.
As such they can't be legally distributed so that scheme is unlikely to be accepted into kodi.

Hopefully someone will reverse engineer the library and produce a clean implementation that may be acceptable, but it hasn't happened yet.

Hello! Any news? I didn't upgraded to iOS9 only because of Kodi. But I think I'll replace my old iPhone with a new 6s and iOS can't be installed on it.

I guess it's a lot of work as Apple redesigned the way AirPlay works, but is it at least feasible? Are some guys working on it?

PS: initially, I bought a Raspberry PI and installed Kodi on it almost only for its AirPlay support ^^ I use it for other stuff now, but AirPlay support is still a must have for a lot of iOS / Mac OS users.

It doesn't look feasible at least for me. If a third party developer does the work (maybe the one who does the shairplay lib) we might consider adding it via a third party library. But for me airplay video and pictures is dead as of those ios9 changes apple made. There are hopes to restore at least a very rudimentary version of airplay audio streaming support for ios9 clients but thats it folks.

Hey,

airplay audio streaming support for ios9 would be great (and for me enough!)

So please, do it! Thanks!

Best regards.

Hey,

Music will also be enought for me ...
However, someone seems to have successfully implemented Airplay protocol (pics, video, music and mirroring) ... in Kodi.

But, as they don't share their sources or method, I suppose they want to be paid for.

Seems most commercial software already add support for IOS9 now.
Wondering how they archieve that..

Would be nice to see that in Kodi soon...

I've tryied to build shairplay into my Openelec for RPi2 version. and only audio working properly..

I have at least restored audio capabilities for ios9 clients in current nightly builds (since yesterday iirc). There is a new setting in the airplay settings. It should be called "Enable AirPlay Video and Picture support" - just in case our transaltors didn't update the translation yet the setting might still be called "iOS 8 compatibility mode".

For allowing ios9 clients to stream audio this setting has to be turned off. But as said - there is no progress, metadata, thumbnail support with ios9 clients anymore.
