Release "iPlayer WWW" add-on
(2015-10-08, 09:39)luksol Wrote: I've tried it on my PC and Nvidia Shield TV and while my PC played it ok, my shield was reeeeaaaaaallyyyyyy slooooooow when I was trying to navigate. Each time I went into a category, program listsings etc it took at least a minute to display the list. Not to mention that I wasn't able to play anything except for live tv. My PC though was able to play whatever I tried.

I was running the same version of the plugin and Kodi (15.2 RC3) so I guess the difference came from either architecture (arm64 vs x86_64) or Os (windows vs android). Is there anything I can do to help diagnose the problem?

That sounds very strange. I am also running on a PC and on an Android box, both work pretty much the same. The Android box might be a bit slower, but still perfectly acceptable. The only obvious difference is that the latest version I use is 15.1.

The fact that only live shows work sounds similar to ot7849's issues. Please check the replies to their question as well.

Could you please check in a browser if the iPlayer website works fine on both your PC and the Nvidia shield? If it does, the reason for the different behaviour must be in Kodi or the add-on. If there is also a difference for the website, than there is something wrong with your Nvidia Shield or its configuration.

I appreciate this reminder... I was still running rc4 and just checked your OP (Post #1).

I just installed plugin.video.iplayerwww-master.zip [version 1.0.1] on my Raspberry Pi 2 running OpenELEC 5.0.8 (Kodi 14.2) and both Catchup and Live streams start playing very quickly (in 720p) and find the Add-on performance to be excellent (Categories are also working as expected).

Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are lucky, I will be able to take a look sometime during the weekend, otherwise it will be more like end of next week.

Unless everyone else experiences the same problem my best guess would be that you are outside of the UK and therefore geoblocked. That does not explain why the live channels do work, perhaps there is something wrong with the geoblocking at the moment. This is out of the control of the add-on anyways.

If everyone else sees the same issue, it is likely that the Beeb changed something and without taking a closer look, I don't know how difficult it will be to fix.
I'm in the UK & without using a VPN everything is fine, however when using a UK VPN I have an issue where the addon tells me 'content is only available in the UK'. This is for both Live & Catch-Up content.

This made me think there was an issue with the VPN, but I check both the ITV Player & also 'another' BBC iPlayer addon & both work fine. So this makes me think that it's not a VPN issue, nor an issue with the BBC geo-blocking me. Is there something in the latest versions which would cause this issue where someone is accessing via a VPN?

Everything is working for me from Canada using Unotelly DynamoDNS.

The ITV Player is not a good comparison as it does not access the BBC website. 'another' BBC iPlayer add-on is also not a good comparison, because I assume that this add-on uses different streams which may behave differently and it uses a different library for accessing the iPlayer website. Other than that, I don't know why these errors occur. For some reason, the BBC servers must consider you to be outside of the UK at least with the iPlayer WWW add-on.

The reason for checking ITV Player & another BBC addon was purely to check my VPN was actually using a UK IP address, which this confirmed because changing to a US VPN stops both these from working. It's not a problem for me to turn off the VPN, just seems strange that it started blocking me out of the blue Smile

Version 1.1.0.
Stream information is looking good: bitrate, source and HD/SD.
The stream selection buttons are greyed out now when "Play stream automatically" is turned off.
Highlights have gone a bit wierd. see "Series 9:1 The Magicians Apprentice" should have "Doctor Who" at the start.

I would really like to see the 25fps streams in Live if you could find them. IPTVxtra UKxtra has the links that work if that helps.

Thanks! That's fixed in 1.1.1

I guess this was broken before as well. Will need some more time to fix this. The new design of the Highlights page on the website is pretty much a nightmare.

Don't know where they got these streams from, but they don't seem to be used by the iPlayer website (any more?), so I would rather not add them. I believe they will be shut down soon anyways.

Awesome stuff, thank you for this new iPlayer plugin. Everything seems to be working great so far!

As a future request would it be possible to list content by channel? that's something I always loved about the old broken plugin.

Thanks again for this plugin Big Grin

This really sucks for expats. My British/Danish children learned English from CBeeBies. Iplayer makes living abroad possible for millions of British families.

I am surprised that it works on the laptop. It seems that S4C currently uses different streams. I have no idea why, but the next release will provide a fix for that.

Thanks for reporting this issue!
