why is the smb connection so slow? i mean, a 100mbit/s network should output a lot more than this!? when using ftp etc. the speed is full throttle (9-10mb/s). is the linux/samba connection this slow in general? i can't even switch mp3's without a 2 second lag. and worse, when browsing the network or doing "small" things the sound is glitchy and even interupted. doesn't the xbox support multi-tasking?
i'm not even able to stream a dvd (8-12mbit/s) over this 100mbit network(?) is it the smb code or the mplayer.dll that that is the problem? (i can't use relax since it has security issues beyond everything i've ever seen and performancewise it isn't that much better).
and last, is this bugs or is this the outlook for the future? is this peak performance?

sorry, you're right right (too tired today. but xbmc smb implementation will still be replaced with a samba client, so not just fixed.

so in fact, the network should theoretically be able to play 10 dvd's simultaniously, but now i can't play even one without random stop and lagging... something is very wrong here.
i am currently using build 1126.
anyway, is this just me? do others dvd's play fine?

try ccxstream or another xns/xbmsp stream server, i use the xbms 0.30.6.2 linux xns server and downloading/streaming seems to go as fast as ftp transfers.
read the xbmc
online-manual,
faq and
search the forums before posting! do not e-mail the xbmc-team asking for support!
read/follow the
forum rules! note! team-xbmc never have and never will host or distribute ms-xdk binaries/executables!

hehe! ;-) if you have a very large hd it makes very much sense. and anyway, many ppl encode their dv movies in dvd quality.
the point is that the smb connection should be able to output 10 x a full dvd stream, and not to say 4 x dv. but i have no problem streaming dvd's over the network anymore. build 1129.

i think the point here is that samba sould be faster, it has the ability to be, but for some reason the xbmc implementation of it is slow.
its not a huge issue as it does work, but if someone has some spare time to go over the code and see if it could be sped up, that would be cool.
