XBMC needs Q to be mapped to C. This may be looked at at some point as its a remnant of running on xbox.
You may be able to remap you virtual drive it worked for Daemon tools navigate to
start\control panel\Administrative Tools\computer management\disk\management.
in the bottom right hand box scroll down right click on your virtual DVD Rom drive and use "change drive letters and paths" to assign a different drive letter.

What do you guys mean it has to be C:? I got the same problem with the Q:\ fatal error. I got a dvd-writer that is mapped as Q:\. But what do you mean it has to be mapped as C:\? My HDD is of course C:\ ...

Q:\ just needs to be unused by windows since XBMC will want to use it. so if you have a physical drive, network drive, optical drive whatever mapped to Q:\ in windows you need to give it a different letter.
its a weird oddity of XBMC's xbox roots.
