For sure we understand, its more difficault to keep airplay working because apple want to keep it for their devices only.

But musicbox is able to release airplay without problems for music only. This shows its still possible. Also other NON-Apple devices support airplay and airplay mirroring, but they are not free.

Anyway its understandable kodi has other priorities. And maybe the effort to keep airplay working is not worth it, since it will be more difficault by iOS updates.

For me its useless to buy an apple tv just for airplay. I didnt use mirroring alot, its still very useful. The only thing i cant miss is airplay music.

@Limcard
If someone wants to pick up AirPlay support, there might be some add-on option (binary or python, I'm not sure). However, as Memphiz says, it won't be a default/core feature in the future, so whoever makes such an add-on would be the person handling all the support for the feature.

That's a bit sad, my GF loved the feature :'(
Anyway from a dev perspective I understand this.

Wrong, Apple has never tried to break this on purpose. These APIs are reversed engineered from wireshark dumps and Apple is free to change their internals at will. It's not their problem with they change something that is not a public API. In fact, Apple as never, ever broken public API and they make great pains to keep them stable.

Please try and keep the Apple FUD down to reality Smile

I based my info on an Interview memphiz gave a german computer magazine...

Edit: That one: http://www.macwelt.de/news/Ich-bin-im-XB...50680.html
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Trust me, I know a few Apple internal developers and their attitude is internal structures and private APIs are fare game to change at will. They also don't play cat/mouse games even with jailbreaks...

I trust you :-) - let's see if that helps the airplay users.

Please forgive me if the answer to my question is very obvious and/or has been answered a million times: but does Kodi on Mac OS and ATV4 "use" native Apple Airplay?
Or is it the same reverse-engineered implementation used in Kodi for the other, non-Apple operating systems?

latter.

Thanks. I was thinking of buying an ATV4. So in order to use the official Apple AirPlay you first need to close Kodi/MrMc on the ATV.

Nope, it will just work. That's one reason why MrMC does not have the reversed-engineered airplay. The native atv4 is just so much better.

Will this issue be fixed in near future? Just wondering if I have to change my raspberry to atv or can I use airplay someday?
