WMV + Audio = Choppy
#1
hey guys,

i'm trying to play a video i encoded in wmv9.  if i encode only the video, it plays great.  once i add in audio, the video gets really choppy.  i've tried 2-channel, 5.1, vbr, cbr etc, but the result is the same.

i'm using the 11/29 build of xbmc.  anyone out there having better luck than me?

thanks,
bryan

i've tried the lower bitrate (1mb/s) and also encoding as wmv8, but the results are the same.

it's a 720x480 video. is that too high?

thanks,
bryan

yes,i find wmv files choppier than those divx/xvid files with same spec(most of them are 640x480/ac3),you will easily notic the frame drop when you play your wmv with both xbox and pc side by side.

what profile did you use when encoding the video? in the encoding options you can choose either auto, main or complex with sub menus for each. the settings are designed to control the amount of processing power required to play back the file.

in brief:
choose complex if you intend to playback on a modern pc.
choose main, high level if you are viewing using a wmv capable dvd player.
choose main, medium level for a slower pc.

i'm not sure what would be best for the xbox at that resolution, so some experimentation may be required. i'm interested to hear which one the xbox will play back correctly at full dvd res.

cheers, beastie.

i'm guessing mine was set to auto. i'll try the others and report back.

i find it odd that the video alone is fine though.
