Good Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad
#1
I am looking for a well working and robust Keyboard for my HTPC. I don't mind if it has BT or a USB-Dongle, just wireless. The only 2 things that I really need is a stable connection with a wide range (I sit about 5m away from my HTPC) and a good touchpad. I gave Logitechs K400 a try, but the Touchpad was just a pain in the ass. Never really worked, it always got stuck and didn't react anymore. Would be really happy to get some input and ideas.

I have used the Logitech TK820. It has a large touchpad and decent key switches for couch use. However I didn't like the touchpad either. I am used to the touchpad of my Macbook and sadly I have not encountered a touchpad yet that works as good.
However, since I also do some gaming on my HTPC I used my Xbox One controller and an app from the steam shop called Controller Companion. Together with the Xbox Chatpad (Keyboard for the controller), I very much prefer that over the Keyoard solution because using the Sticks for mouse and scrolling and also having a keyboard is waaay more comfortable and precise that the keyboard/touchpad kombo I used before. You can also configure different mapping for different programs. In chrome for example the Y button opens a new tab and the shoulder buttons go backward or forward. So if you don't necessarily need a keyboard, but just a comfortable way to control your HTPC, I recommend to check that out.

Thanks for the input, but I really need the keyboard. And I do not really want a separate mouse. But since I am also used to my macbooks touchpad, the logitech was just a huge disappointment. Any other manufacturers worth considering?

I'm using Rii mini i6 RF-version mini-keyboard

My quote from "What remote device do you use?" thread

Remote Device: mini-keyboard / Remote
Media Device: HTPC
OS: Windows
Connection type: Wireless version

Pros:

++ can learn the IR codes from original remotes (works with my LG TV)
++ more responsive touchpad compared to my old rii mini-keyboard
+ perfect size
+ backlit

Cons:

- problems with distance (? mini usb dongle), so I had to use usb extension. Now it works fine.
- sleep mode: can't wake up instantly, I need to make a long press or 1 extra click. Very annoying =(
- not good battery life compared to my old rii mini-keyboard.
- not reliable on/off switch

Thanks, but that rii mini is just too small for my needs. I want a normally sized keyboard. The logitech k400 was perfect, the quality just sucked.

Microsoft All-in-One Media Keyboard. Range might be a little short though.

The K18 doesn't look too bad, but it seems as if there was no place to get Rii products in the EU.

You can get them about anywhere, but be careful of fakes. There are tons of fake Rii products out there. Check Amazon and the various normal places.
