morning mate, could you look into this error i'm having it scanning my pictures folders:

pictures are stored in a nas. the main folder is mapped in the pc (windows10) from wich i'm scanning.
strange thing is that in the past, when you released the addon i scanned all my paths without problem. the error occurs when the addon read a folder already scanned months ago.
now i'm trying do have .png image.and i'm saving thums in the addon folder, not in the pictures one,
may the & is the problem, this is the name of the last folder before the error

Hi DaLanic,

Is this addon still working?
I downloaded the zip from your website and it came back with version 1.0.2.
This link I used was from the bottom of your web page 'http://projects.lanik.org/KodiProject_VisualThumbs.htm'.
I'd like this feature in kodi and just wondering if the add is still available.

That is the REPO. Then you have to install it from the repo.

Thanks for the add-on, really looking forward to populating my thumbnails if I can get this error fixed. My photo folders contain some files that are not photos, I think they're put there by some 3rd party apps I use to sync my photo library to a backup device. As soon as it sees one it crashes out.

Is there any way to skip files that are not jpg?

Thanks for the update, I've tried v3.11 and this runs through without any errors and it creates a folder.jpg in each folder. The only problem is the thumbnail it creates is just an empty black image. The folders are no more than 3 deep, any idea what the problem might be?

Hard to tell... just tested it on my PC, works fine 3 levels... please send me the log...

Hard to tell... just tested it on my PC, works fine 3 levels... please send me the log...

Below is the first few lines of the log. Interestingly it says max levels 5. I know you only support 3. However how is this calculated? I didnt think servername and sharename would be included in this, so \\kryten\photo albums\cycling for example would this be 1 folder deep?

If it helps, some of the jpgs created do have thumbs within them but not many. Some have one or two thumbs (instead of 4) but most are completely black and blank.

Does this look like a folder nesting issue or is the EXIF error relevant or do you spot anything else it could be?

Below is the first few lines of the log. Interestingly it says max levels 5. I know you only support 3. However how is this calculated? I didnt think servername and sharename would be included in this, so \\kryten\photo albums\cycling for example would this be 1 folder deep?

If it helps, some of the jpgs created do have thumbs within them but not many. Some have one or two thumbs (instead of 4) but most are completely black and blank.

Does this look like a folder nesting issue or is the EXIF error relevant or do you spot anything else it could be?

There are 2 errors.

1st is "IMG ERROR". That means that PIL library couldn't open the image. See the filenames. They are either BAD images, NOT images or there are no rights to open them. Or the path contains some weird characters... see you have folders beginning with . which is not good idea, those are hidden in Linux.

Function "image = Image.open(open(imageFileName, 'rb'))" can't open the image. This is just standard open/read function, so you have to sort it out yourself, can't see why it would fail, the issue is probably on your side.

Second error is "EXIF ERROR". What that means that the images don't contain correct EXIF flag. They're JPGs?? I also notice there are apostrophes (') and commas (,) and and sign (&) in the paths, which is always bad idea. Try renaming them to something else....

There are 2 errors.

1st is "IMG ERROR". That means that PIL library couldn't open the image. See the filenames. They are either BAD images, NOT images or there are no rights to open them. Or the path contains some weird characters... see you have folders beginning with . which is not good idea, those are hidden in Linux.

Function "image = Image.open(open(imageFileName, 'rb'))" can't open the image. This is just standard open/read function, so you have to sort it out yourself, can't see why it would fail, the issue is probably on your side.

Second error is "EXIF ERROR". What that means that the images don't contain correct EXIF flag. They're JPGs?? I also notice there are apostrophes (') and commas (,) and and sign (&) in the paths, which is always bad idea. Try renaming them to something else....

I've removed the special characters (except for dashes, I assume dashes are OK) and run it just on one folder. Its no different, still creates mostly blank black images. Some do have 1 or 2 smaller thumbnails within them but none have all 4 smaller thumbs.

Below is the log again. The EXIF errors are still there. Does this matter for your app? I have a multitude of Windows applications that I use for managing and editing photos, all of them can read the EXIF data succesfully for all my photos. I'm just trying to figure out what Visual Thumbs is having difficulty with.
