Secondly the reason it ended was because I said I wasn't going to do the tit-for-tat, so posted an edit rather than a new post.
Thirdly... what am I supposed to do if someone isn't debating / arguing, but rather posting the same passive-aggressive 'Whatever you say' ? How should I handle that better next time, in such a way that I'm not told to 'shut it' by a Mod?
How would you respond to a poster doing that to you?

Just don't react at all to the "whatever you say" posts - as if they were not there. Thats what i understand by the word "ignoring".
