The alphabet strip is useful, but not often. @jurialmonkey, I accept your decision, but I won't change skins as a result of that change. Do what your (considerable) artistic spirit dictates.

Hey everyone. I'm wondering how many people actually use the alphabet bar frequently.
I've found myself barely ever using it and pretty much only using scrollbars.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm considering removing the alphabet strip altogether. I think it looks a lot cleaner without it and makes the skin match better with the home screen rather than feeling "boxed in" if you get what I mean.

Instead, I'm considering having a scrollbar that sits tightly against the edge of the screen. You would still be able to use the alphabet jump: pressing right again would open up a small dialog with the full alphabet jump (and arranged with multiple rows so it is quicker to navigate). The dialog would also have search and filter buttons to be able to refine a search in different ways.

I'm pretty strongly leaning towards making these changes, but I do want to consider everyone's opinions first -- mostly because it wouldn't be an optional change as it requires changing too many dimensions (I did a toggleable dimension thing in Eminence and it was such a pain to manage so I don't want to go down that path again).

Some screenshots showing without alphabet strip -- I just think it looks so much cleaner. What do you guys think?

I think that would be fine. I was actually just doing some test navigating with only the scroll bar and one can indeed get around quite quickly. It might be worth adding a letter 'display' that flashes each time one hits a new letter while using the scroll bar.

I think its late now to suggest something alphabet related, even more when I didn't try your last changes Jurialmunkey haha, but I just thought that could be a good idea that, when the scrollbar is highlighted (selected), the alphabet appears on the right of the scrollbar to be selected if you hit right one more time.

Anyway this night I will try your solution, which probably is going to be much better than mine.

I think there is a problem in Horizon with the Global Search addon. When I search for something, I always get an empty window that is titled "Search Results...". I switched to Estuary to test, and in Estuary I do get the search results window with all of the movies, tv shows, episodes, etc. that resulted from the search. Could you please take a look? Thanks.

Can you test latest git. I've added a window that shows the fanart for the current item (if skin helper finds it). I had to manually add a show using the DemoPVR addon, but I think it should work. For reference, it should look something like this:

Yeah I already thought of this Wink

The Kodi logo in the top left will switch to the current sort letter whilst scrolling.

Yeah I'm still trying to figure out a way to indicate that you can press again to select the alphabet strip. I'm pretty happy with the design now, but if anyone has an idea about how to indicate that it is available then I'm all ears!

Strange. It is working fine for me. Can you check what version of global search you are using (possible that there were changes for Leia). Might need a debug log for this one.
