I read in an article that a focus of kodi 18 will be drm support. Any chance this will translate to being able so view drmed channels in livetv? I have a feeling it's just stepping stones so companies can make addons with drm in them, nothing to do with live tv. Thoughts?

Incredibly unlikely. The article was referencing more Widevine-type of DRM than CableLABs type. The day that CableCARD DRM sees any type of approval outside of Windows, South Park's Saddam will have a snowball fight ....
