To me it makes ZERO sense to ignore just "the" and not all other articles. I have dozens of movies with "a" or "an" and would prefer them to be treated the same.
The most intuitive would be to enable the user to define the list in the gui or have a choice between or a custom list (which defaults to all accepted English or international articles.
I think all righthtinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.

It makes a lot of sense actually.
"The" is by far the most common article and just about everyone can agree that should be ignored, when it comes to the others then you are going to get increasingly divided opinion, for example I have few movies starting with "a" or "an" so I'd expect them to be list in A, this is why there is an advanced settings so those who want the additional articles to be ignored can do so. However I can see adding in an xml is not the most user friendly way, perhaps it could be done via a multiselect via the GUI but that would need a group of predefined articles, the benefit of the xml method is it's completely flexible.
