For example, sadly all the Android boards I've looked into (Raspberry Pi, Odroid C2, etc) don't have a standby or low-power mode, making them a bit more of a hassle for car use. I don't want to have to wait for Kodi to start up every time I start my car.
Currently I'm planning to use an NVidia Shield tablet w/ HDMI output in order to have standby w/ ignition off and also digital audio passthrough (via a Monoprice HDMI extractor). I've been working on this for some time now, and I can tell you:
1. Android tablets w/ HDMI output are hard to find (note: there is a low-cost Windows tablet that can be used also, I found!)
2. HDMI audio & passthrough in Kodi is excellent if you use it
In the case of using a tablet, the AutoSleeper app will put it in standby automatically, but can't restore the last Kodi actions (like resume a video, etc) at power-on again. You could likely also use Tasker for power-down functionality.
I wish there was an Android board that could provide these things I need but I don't know if there ever will be :/
