Is there any way of stopping music going fullscreen when playing? Since the fullscreen is kind of blank for music, I'd rather just continue to see the playlist.

a possible cause might be the screensaver kicking in, so make sure this option is disabled:
settings > interface > screensaver > use visualisation while playing audio

also check the skins settings - some have options to 'go full screen' when music is playing
