edcid Wrote:Hi Paul,

I beliieve I have the latest XBMC (using the software updater on XBMC) but I'll try and confirm. Then I'll try changing the skin.xml file over.

Cheers!

christophlin Wrote:I've also experienced the same problems. I did some extensive testing over the weekend with both Paul's skins and Rocky5's "lite" textures....both seem to perform sub-par with fanart enabled on MediaStream v1.0. I might be able to play a couple of movies/tv eps, but by the 3rd one nothing will launch.

What's weird is that when I use MediaStream v0.94, everything seems to work fine...the only exception being the fanart displaying in the list of all TV shows (although fanart can be enabled once I am browsing a season/episode within a selected show).

I am not an expert in any of this, so I wouldn't be able to tell you why v0.94 works for some reason. The only complaint I have is the constant hard drive spinning while browsing my library--but I have the feeling that's due to the large size of the library rather than the skin itself.

Obviously I would prefer to use Paul's "lite" versions of v1.0 and Minimalko, but I just can't get it to function properly.
The problem you describe is called memory creep it used to happen in windows 98.
I find my xbox runs out of memory after playing a few films the cure is to restart xbmc then it flushes the memory. also have you tried using my texure pack in mediastream V0.94 if this works better for you is there any chance of you uploading it somwhere so i can test it on mine.. thanks

I'll definitely give it a shot--but just using the default v0.94 with the "lite" setting seems to let me play as many videos as i want consecutively.

But just to clarify--you're saying that you experience the same behavior with your custom "lite" versions? More specifically, you have to restart your Xbox after playing a few films/tv-eps?

This would actually help explain my frustration if it is indeed the usual behavior.

Thanks.

Paul, what mods did you make to the skin? I'm working on making it even lighter.

I've managed to decrease the size of your textures quite a bit, but I haven't tested how they appear or how the memory usage is impacted.

Getting back to what I was asking about before, would removing unused portions of the skin affect the memory? For example, removing everything in the home.xml that's related to the blade in the center of the screen. Smaller xml file = less memory used ...right?

Okay, I didn't have the latest xbmc (updater was playing funny buggers with me) so I downloaded and installed it manually. It's now svn 20090125? Anyways, it's the latest as there's "no more updates available".

Still having major issues. Seems like I can play all content in "non-library" mode but when in library mode certain tv shows will play but not others. Movies don't play at all. Even after restart. Debug tells me on certain tv shows memory drops to about 17mb! On Movies it's about 22mb.

This is using the latest light version of media stream. I've even downsized the fanart as someone had suggested to no avail. Should I trash the library and start fresh? Also, having same issues with PM3 in library mode! so it's not just a Mediastream issue!!! BTW, Xbox is only softmodded if that helps.

GAAARRRGGGHHH!!!! LOL

To be honest if your having problems using project mayhem3 then it can't be the skins at fault entirely. Are you playing these from the xbox or over the network? if over a network make sure there are no kinks in your wireing it does make a difference. also it could be your hard drive at fault if you can rule out these then post a full debug log, as you have done all you can to ease any memory issues you have.

Yes you can reduce the the dimensions of the .pngs but remember xbox will in most cases then have to upscale them thus using more memory. you only have to try rocky5's liter .xpr
it's about 5mb i think and it looks bloody awfull and memory was only improved by about 1mb in most cases. as i stated before i spent a lot of time trying to come up with way's to save memory with this skin and in the end i just went for a balance of memory / quality and there the ones your using, but by all means don't take my word for it have a go you may improve it for your uses. skunkmonkee even suggested that if any .png's were removed Ie not used any more then go through the .xmls and remove any mention of it in there?
This should save it some memory but i never got round to that one? let me know what results you get as i am curios to know if it can be improved.Smile

Hi Paul,

Thnx for replying so quickly. Playing media over a network and as far as I know there's no kinks on the cable. Also, never had an issue with the hd. These playback issues have only surfaced once I began setting up and using the library. All media plays as normal in normal video mode.

How do I get access to the FULL debug log?

Many thanks,
Ed

PS. What should my video cache settings be at? Most are at 2048? Is this too high?

To get the debug go to settings / system / hardware and its right at the top click on enable debug logging.
This can be set in the advanced settings.xml but you would have to create one from scratch as xbmc will not generate one for you read the wiki for full instructions and commands for it.
In the meantime play around with the cache settings for the network it can't make it any worse than it is.
