I use kodi for movies and tv shows. Now I want to add some sports to my library. I have the recording on the Network Drive and added the folder as a video source like the other folders. My problem now is how do i actually implement them?

I added the source as movies but, of course, they show up between my other movies. I created an entry point in my main menu that points directly to the source but in there it shows two menu entries, both called „Sport“ like the source, and in both entries it shows the same videos. But only 2 of 3. When I go directly to the source via media settings it shows all 3 folders, 2 with metadata one without.

How should I set this up so that

a) The files from the sports source don’t show up between my movies and shows.

b) I can click an entry in the main menu and directly see the videos from my sports source like movies.

If you play with video nodes (wiki) you could maybe do it.

As an experiment, I would try creating a new TV node pointing specifically at the file path containing the sports media and see if that works, and then if your skin allows it you can add the node to the menu as a new item (Estuary doesn't allow this, but some of the forks of it and some of the other skins do).

If they also show up under your TV shows menu entry, you can adjust it to explicitly exclude them (the TV shows item is just a pre-defined built in video node).

And if you need to add metadata, you can do that with an NFO file (wiki) for each item.

Creating an bro file is no option. The recording works automated and I would like to do as less manually as possible.

I added the source now as movies and exclude it from updates and without adding it to the library. Now they don’t show between my movies. Then I created an entry point that points to the source and shows the content as files. When I enter that point I see the folder structure, of course without any metadata. Not ideal, but it is something.

Any ideas why it doesn’t work when I add the source as music videos?

Edit: Nevermind. When I tried to start a sports file Kodi scraped it and added it to the library. Now it shows again between the other movies...

You can add the metadata with aforementioned NFO files (wiki) (that's what they're for), but as you note it's a manual process (unless you can find an app that will do it for you).

I think the expected structure of things for music videos is a bit different, but I don't use Kodi for them so can't say for certain. But if it works as movies, is it a problem?

Of course it can’t find a music video called UFC 246 and asks me to enter a name. My only option is to hit done and rapidly hit the button on my remote to cancel. Then I’m in the details view of the file and can hit play and it starts. Alternatively I can start it directly via the context menu, but still not very pretty.

For my movies I want to get in the detail view when I hit enter on my remote, I guess there is no way to have this specific view behave different and start the file when I hit enter?

The keymap is tied to the window (in this case videos) and not a specific view.  I think your best bet is to make the source content type none and use a smart playlist for it.  Another possibility is if the file formats are mp4 or mkv and there is some convenient way to tag the files outside of Kodi then set Kodi to read tags in video.  That way you can open the movieinfo dialog as the default <enter> action and not get bugged about scraping.
