This may be an age old question but what is the general consensus for the best way to handle folder structure for movies & TV? For TV I assume

C:\TV\Tv Show Name\episode

then have all the episodes or is it better to do it 

C:\TV\TV Show Name\Season\episode

For Movies is it better to do it all flat in the root like

C:\Movies\Movie (year)

Or is it better to do sub folders

C:\Movies\Movie (year)\Movie (year)

Thank you. So if I am reading it right tv shows it it just needs a folder for each show but not seasons. For movies best practice is a sub folder for each movie?

Correct. Season folders are optional. You can choose to have them or not have them.
I suggest having them. For example The Big Bang Theory has 281 episodes, imagine all them, plus potentially artwork and nfo files in the one folder. Best to use Season folders.

For movies best practice is a sub folder for each movie?

Yes. If you dump all movies in the one folder, then that folder becomes cluttered with artwork, nfo files, trailers etc. Then there are some addons that won't work unless you use movie folders.
