Oh, I forgot to mention that I am using a vertical home menu. I think (will have to check) when I use a horizontal menu it works as expected. I think the default behaviour after playing an item is to move 'down' to the next item in the list, hence it selects the next main menu item if I'm starting playback from a homescreen widget on a vertical layout.

Anyway, I won't clog up this thread with a non skin related issue. As per what you and other have said, I totally agree with your approach to the development of Horizon and what I've seen so far is fantastic. KUTGW!

I'm actually about to start an episode, so I went into the season view so I can confirm whether or not the described behavior is the same there.

EDIT: I can't say if this happened in original AZ, but it does happen to me in AZ2.

EDIT: I botched the experiment I'll try again later.

It's easy to recreate as you can stop playback manually. Like this :

This definitely doesn't happen for me and isn't normal behaviour at all (its normal for menu to be focused after leaving fullscreen playback but not for it to change which position is focused).

Do you have a mouse connected or mouse enabled in Kodi settings? Possible that the cursor is sitting in a weird spot. Other possibility is that you have a menu item in skin shortcuts that is hidden. Check that your skin shortcuts configuration matches your home menu entries and delete any that don't show on your home menu (sometimes Play DVD or Live TV shortcuts can mess with things if they are hidden).

Mouse is disabled. I did have Live TV there and hidden so I've deleted that but still have the issue.

At least I know it's not expected behaviour so I can investigate it further. Thanks for the suggestions!

No, I think we're on the same page. If you play from a TV widget, focus returns to the TV main menu item.

I accidentally ended up browsing menus before playback was finished and wasn't on the same menu after playback finished

You know, looking at it... I take it background blur is the default?

Also, when scrolling homescreen widgets vertically, do the shortcuts in the upper-left stay as a header, or they more of a "category shortcut"?

Yeah Blur is default if colorbox is installed. Background style can be switched to the Aura style Overlay in Skin Settings.

Originally the icon shortcuts were fixed throughout the skin. However, I'm not certain yet if the icon shortcuts are going to stay or not...

If I can get the scrolling working properly between widget pages then I will need headings in the top left instead to indicate which section you're in (i.e. press down from last movies widget will take you to the first widget of tvshows - or whatever your next main menu item is). I've got it working ondown but for some reason I can't get onup to work properly and I'm not really sure why. If I can get it working onup then the shortcut icons will have to go because being able to scroll through the widget pages is a far better feature.

In AZ2 I introduced the new method which uses a second level submenu to manage the widgets. In AH I've further refined how the widget templates are built so that now each main menu item has its own grouplist "page" of widgets which allows for better handling of transitions between each section.

I don't think there is anything at all that can be done from the skin side of things re: loading times. Plugins take however long they take to load. It does appear to improved navigation performance though.
