Assigning collection art to sets
#1
I'm just getting into sets here and looking for some general clarification.

I'd like to assign collection art to my sets – both posters and fan art.  I see that there are special image types called "set" and "setfanart".  If I set either of those, I get some nice selections of specific "collection" art/images.  However, neither of those are displayed, I assume by my skin (xonfluence).

• Is that assumption correct? If not, how can I get the "set" and "setfanart" to be shown instead of "poster" and "fanart"?  If it is a limitation of xonfluence, which are the best current skins that do support those image types?

• Assuming that if I want to stick with xonfluence, and it will display a separate poster and fanart for a set, how do I actually browse for remote art by going through "poster" or "fanart" types?  Usually the choices there are specific to the default movie in the set. (ie, not with label for "Collection" in the art.)   (It is confusing because some, even many, of those sets did pull automatic "collection" art into the "poster" and "fanart" image types. Why migh that happen?)

• is there any way within the kodi GUI to get a list of the missing members of a set?

Forget that. It is a holdover from v17 and no longer used for local artwork. v18 and especially v19 have seen some major changes to artwork for movie sets. You now need a Movie Set Information Folder which is very similar to the Artist Information folder if you use music.

Have a read of this and come back with any questions... https://kodi.wiki/view/Movie_sets_artwork

Not sure what you mean here. Members= artwork or Members= movies? Answer is no to both.

×   Thank you. I did read that and still have questions. Smile  I see I can either 1) scrape or 2) somehow scan local artwork in a way that's not even implimented yet.  Neither are clear about at one point this scraping or scanning happens. Presumably only when adding new media.

What I want to do is manually choose remote artwork for existing sets, many of which don't have the proper "Collection" artwork.  Going to context menu>manage->choose art->poster for example (on a set) doesn't provide the right "collection" artwork.  While doing the same with …choose art>set does.  but then there's no way to get it into "poster".   Or is there?

I have Artwork Beef installed, but never successfully used. The right collection artwork can be found through that.  But when I choose an image through AB that it gives a dialog saying something successfully happend, but what?  No artwork is set anywhere.

As for scraping, do you have to change all your content then to the universal scraper if you normally use themoviedb, in order for that to work?  or does the universal scraper just have to be installed?

Scanning refers to reading local
Scraping refers to reading online data

If it is already in your library, then nothing changes. This only affects new movies and tv shows you add to your library.

That can only happen when you have properly scraped your media. If you want movie set artwork, then the only scraper that can do that is Universal Movie Scraper and it will scrape all the links to the artwork, so that you can then see them in Manage>Choose Art. If you use any other scraper, then the links won't be there to see the artwork in Choose Art. Also you have to enable the settings in Universal Movie Scraper to scrape movie set artwork.

Yep, not sure about that. It is probably due to some wrong setting somewhere in the addon.
Go the the Movies tab of the Artwork Beef settings and make sure "Do not automatically add artwork from web services..." is disabled.
Then scroll down to near the bottom of that page and make sure you enabled all the artwork types for movie sets.
If you want to save the artwork locally, go to the Advanced tab and enter your Movie Set Artwork Folder location under "process movie set artwork in central info directory"

Having it installed is not enough. It actually has to perform the scrape, then the artwork is available. So your movies will need to be rescraped or run Artwork Beef to fill in the missing artwork.

OK, I may try that later, but for now I like themoviedb as a scraper. So I'd rather choose the art for sets manually after adding relevant movies. My problem, again is I need the right ones to choose from somehow.

I followed al that, and it still isn't doing what I need.  I made this 3 min video. Here I select the fanart I want with artwork beef (fanart that does not appear with regular 'choose art' for set), and Artwork Beef reports "3 artwork updated". But where is it "updated"?  It doesn't change the set fanart.  It's not then available with manage>choose art, and it is not saved in the local home directory I set in Artwok Beef.  So huh?

If you want to do it manually, then download the art directly from the websites and save it in your Movie Set Artwork folder.

I cannot watch it as it is marked private.

Sorry, I can't help you more with Artwork Beef. Best to ask in the Artwork Beef thread.

Do you mean on a computer? If so, yes, that's what I just ended up doing. But that's a bit too manual. It's not what ought to be the way. You should just be able to browse in Kodi for relevant artwork, regardless of how it was scraped. If it scraped it enough to know it belongs to a set, why can't you browse to get set/collection art directly, when Kodi is capable of pulling that up when browsing through what you say is the outdated set & setfanart image types? Without all these hoops. Seem like a no brainer to me in terms of implementation.

Sorry, video perms fixed. If you do get a chance to take a look and have any comments about what AB is doing, or what I'm doing wrong, that would be appreciated, as you know the scoop. But I also just took it to the AB thread.
