Strange issue after changing router. Slooooow NFS browsing.
#1
Hi all, hoping someone can help as I've reached the limit of my knowledge.

I have Kodi 18.6 set up on various platforms (Bravia Android TV, two FireSticks and two Windows 10 systems). I have a Synology DS416j NAS and have just upgraded my router/modem from the standard PlusNet Hub One to a FritzBox 7590.

Previously, all systems were working great...fast NFS browsing (so all media sources are NFS). The only reason I changed the PlusNet box is that it kept having to be reset once or twice a day...it was becoming unreliable.

I've got the FritzBox up and running. The NAS and the Bravia are directly connected to the router, all others are wirelessly connected. I removed all sources from the Kodi installs and then put them back on as the new router gave out IP addresses in a different range than the old router. No problem so far, in fact adding the media sources initially was fine, but pretty much immediately after I'm finding that if I try to play media on any of the Kodi systems, it takes anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes to respond to the request to play that media, whether it's Android or Windows Kodi. I've tried adding sources and the response is the same...about 5 minutes to acknowledge and then show me the NAS IP address, then another 5 to 10 minutes to show me the NFS shares when I select that IP address.

When media starts playing, it plays fine.

If I try to browse the NAS via Windows itself and play media with VLC, then everything is instant, whether connected to the router wirelessly or wired.

Pings are as quick as you can get, and tracert shows first stop connections as the FritzBox and are instant.

I'm at the end of my troubleshooting knowledge with this and am hoping someone can help.

Can you enable debug logging on one of the devices, reboot it and then gather a debug log (wiki) whilst trying to play something (the Windows machines are probably simplest to do it on) and then upload the log (either manually to paste.kodi.tv or via the log uploader addon)?

I've got more or less the same set-up as you (same router and a Win10 machine, but my Synology is a different model but still serves media via NFS) and everything runs sweet in Kodi on the Win10 machine plus a couple of LE Pi's too. Maybe the log can give some indications...

Thanks for your reply. I'll do the debug a little later and let you know when it's pasted up.

Well, that's typical. It works fine on my laptop (wireless) and tower PC (wired), both Windows 10.

I then tried on my Android devices and all show the slowness problem, so it seems to point to Android specifically (or more likely some setting on the router that Android doesn't like). Problem is I don't know how to get a debug log from them. Possibly easiest on my phone as that's exhibiting same symptoms...

Right, I have a debit log from my Bravia which is wired direct to the same router my NAS is wired to.

While debug was running, I created new sources, scanned them in to the library and then attempted to play a couple of things. Somewhat annoyingly, the scans ran as well as they had on the Windows machines which I want expecting. But then playing took about two minutes from selecting the media.

Thanks for any insights you may have!

I can't see anything being played in that log, and also it's only 1m45s long? There's also no scanning in there that I can see.

Did you upload the right log?

Probably means I did something wrong running the log then...I'll have another go later. Thanks for looking.

Apologies for not coming back on this one.

My gut had been telling me that "something" was still referencing the old IP address range, even after changing my sources...maybe some cached file or something..idk...

Anyway, I ended up removing Kodi from the Bravia and reinstalling it and it has been functioning perfect since then, so my gut is still telling me old IP references might have been the issue.

Thanks for looking at it anyway and apologies again for not getting back sooner.
