Solved Can't access SMB after changing routers
#1
I switched routers today, and SMB stopped working.  The network is wired.  The local IP addresses of all devices are the same as before.  The server (a Windows notebook) is 192.168.1.2.  The Kodi device (Nvidia Shield TV) is 192.168.1.3.  Nothing else has changed.  Both devices have an internet connection, but I can't access any of the SMB shares - "No route to host" error.

I later also discovered that the Kodi device is no longer pingable:
Quote:Pinging 192.168.1.3 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.2: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.2: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.2: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.2: Destination host unreachable.

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.3:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

I have checked all settings and can't figure out what's wrong.  Any ideas?

Which SMB version(s) is the router allowing?

How do you check that?  The router is running DD-WRT, and I did not see a setting for SMB.

But I don't think SMB version is the issue, because I can't even ping the Kodi device from the laptop.  I am able to ping both devices from a phone connected to the same router via Wifi, which is very odd.

I went ahead and removed the Kodi device from the static IP list.  The device acquired the 192.168.1.11 address, and SMB shares started working in Kodi!  Then after a couple of reboots, "No route to host" again and ping also stopped working.

I just can't understand what's going on here.

Does the new router have a different DHCP pool?

Not sure I understand the question.  The router is 192.168.1.1, and the first available IP is 192.168.1.2

I have assigned the devices in question static IPs (but have also tried DHCP for the Nvidia Shield).

I thought DD-WRT is a user-installed firmware?  Maybe better to ask on DD-WRT support forums.

@scott967 Confirmed, it was a firmware issue.  Resolved by adding specific command-line parameters to the router's startup script.
