No lyrics for large playlists (using CU LRC Lyrics)
#1
I have a rather large music collection (~30k songs). The files are on a samba network share, the library is in a mysql/mariadb database. When I select an individual album to play, the lyrics are nicely shown.

When I select "Songs" and start music playback from there, no lyrics are shown. I have the feeling it is somehow related to the size of the "Songs" section. When I search for an individual song within "Songs" and start playback then, the lyric is shown. When no lyrics are shown after starting playback from the long list of "Songs" and I stop the playback, I can get no lyrics anymore for any other type of starting the playback (as if the lyrics plugin is still in progress doing other stuff). I tried letting the playback continue for over an hour, but no lyrics appear.

I have another machine also running Kodi, using the same music library (files from network share, library in mysql/mariadb) and there the lyrics are shown also for the large Songs section.

Here a debug log of when lyrics are not shown when starting from Songs section: https://paste.kodi.tv/kahabulomu.kodi
Here a debug log of when lyrics are succesfully shown: https://paste.kodi.tv/owokunilaz.kodi

Can somebody help me?

Ok, replying to my own post...

I figured out that if I disable the Netflix plugin, it works fine again. I installed Netflix as described here:
https://github.com/CastagnaIT/plugin.vid...-the-addon

After disabling and a reboot it works. Enabling (without rebooting) and it does not work anymore. Of course, I want both...

Any ideas how to continue?

i suspect it's the netflix background service that's doing something odd.
it's causing very high cpu usage for around 15 seconds whenever i start music playback.
... and that's with cu lrc lyrics disabled.

Thanks! I created an issue on the github page of the Netflix plugin, see here:

@ronie : : did you see the findings on the github page of the Netflix addon? It looks like it is really the CU LRC Lyrics plugin that is causing the issue. Do you plan on trying to tackle the issues reported there? Should I report them in another bugtracker?

I can not... Do you suspect the Netflix addon is causing the issue in the end?

The discussion on the github was not/hard to follow for me. Can I perform more tests to supply more evidence?

what i did:
- uninstall the cu lrc lyrics addon
- restart kodi
- play some music from the songs listing
- notice the cpu maxing out at 100% for 15 seconds

- disable the netflix addon
- restart kodi
- play some music from the songs listing
- notice the cpu behaves normally

so the answer to your question 'why am i having issues with cu lrc?':
because there's another addon that keeps your cpu busy. this will negatively impact all other addons that happen to be running at the same time.

But the lyrics addon seems rather sensitive to this issue and does not recover at all (once this has occured, there is no way to show lurics anymore without restarting kodi, and kodi can only be force-quit).

Could the lyrics addon be made more robust for temporal high cpu loads?

@ronie : I have been diving into this further and I do still think at least a part of the problem lies in cu lyrics.

I started with a complete empty config of Kodi on my ubuntu 18.04 kodi 18.8 install. I added my mysql musiclibrary settings in advancedsettings.xml and I added my music library using a samba share. I did not install the lyrics addon yet.

When I start playback from music->songs all goes smooth, doing next, next, etc, all is fine, no high cpu usage. Log of this can be found here:
https://paste.kodi.tv/exabirones.kodi

Then I installed the lyrics addon. I started playback again from the music->songs section. Lyrics loaded nicely when I went full-screen, going to the next song showed the new lyrics, etc. Normal CPU usage. When going to the next song quickly a few times after each other I get an emply lyrics screen (no lyrics messages in the top right corner) and CPU is high (~125%). When stopping playback the empty lyrics screen stays on top of the tracklist with high CPU usage. After about 30s the lyrics screen disappears and CPU is low. Starting playback again and going to full screen mode immediately shows the empty lyrics screen, cpu is high. After stopping playback lyrics screen stays visible, cpu high. After 30s lyrics screen disappears, cpu is normal:
https://paste.kodi.tv/deguzifawe.kodi

I restarted kodi and started playback from music->songs once again. I started ACDC - A whole lotta Rosie and when I went to fullscreen it immediately show the correct lyrics. However, going to the next song (after more thatn 10s) shows the same lyrics (so still the whole lotta rosie lyrics) and cpu becomes high. While playing back the song, the blue textline of the lyrics nicely follows, but of the wrong lyrics. Going to the next song and next song (each time waiting about 10s) keeps on showing the "whole lotta rosie" lyrics. and CPU stays high. I stopped playback, waited for the lyrics window to disappear and started playback again. Now I got an empty lyrics window (after going fullscreen) with high cpu load. Stoppling playback gives the lyrics window on top of the playlist once again with high cpu untitl the lyrics window disappears again after about 20s.

@mr_blond18 thanx for the tests you've been doing!

after looking at your log giles, i can conclude two things:
1. we indeed do have the same taste in music ;-)
2. you didn't enable logging in the cu lrc addon settings

could you please give it another shot, using this version:
script.cu.lrclyrics-5.8.0.zip

in case that does not fix the problem, please provide a Debug Log with logging in the addon settings enabled.

Hi Ronie,
thank you very very much, this seems to completely fix the issues Indescribed above :-) I sometimes still see some weird behavior on my production install, but on my lyrics testing install it works really smooth. When I also install the netflix addon I see some weird stuff. I will investigate further and address you or netflix addon devellopper

What did you change?

great, that's good to know!

i did remove some thread locking/unlocking code.
seems to have a positive effect so far, just keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't break something else.

A (unrelated) issue I see is that if I switch from one track to the next, the lyrics for the previous song are shown as long as it has not found lyrics for the new song. Especially if no lyrics are found this is annoying, since this can take up to ten seconds on my machine. It would be better to show no/an empty lyrics screen as long as there are no lyrics (yet) for that particular track.

The blue line (indicating how far along the lyrics we are) scrolls down in the old lyrics as well...
