Hello,

I have had this problems for years and was never able to find a solution. I am organizing my TV shows with a program (SickChill) that does proper naming for me:

Every show has it's own folder, and the naming is configured as following:
Season_%0S/%S.N_S%0SE%0e_%E.N_%Q.N
which results in:
Single EP: Season_02/Show.Name_S02E03_Ep.Name_720p.HDTV.ext
Multi-EP: Season_02/Show.Name_S02E03E04E05_Ep.Name_720p.HDTV.ext

So all my episodes are correctly named and also correctly matched, with an annoying problem: certain Episodes are matched twice, due to numbers in Episode Names or Quality. I will add the list of Filenames and the wrongly matched series/episodes below.
All I want to do (and I tried with adjusting the advancedsettings.xml) is to enforce Kodi only to match the following pattern: S01E01, leaving everything else be.

Can you enlighten me how to achieve this goal?

Can you enlighten me how to achieve this goal?

One way is to simply remove all the unnecessary crap in the filenames you have.
All metadata is stored in the Kodi database, such as video resolution and episode title.
Keeping your filenames simple will avoid having hiccups in scrapers.

Example: The.Resident_2018/Season_02/The.Resident_S02E01_004230_1080p.WEB.DL.mkv ==> The.Resident_S02E01.mkv

There are plenty of file renaming tools that can rename your folders in batches and clear stuff in no time. You will have to fully rescrape your TV show collection though.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
Indeed that would be an option, but I would rather be able to configure kodi to work properly. I am from time to time using the files on other machines without Kodi (or any other proper media center) installed, so having the title and quality in the filename is sometimes handy.
So yes it's the last resort, but I still hope there is a chance I can achieve my goal without it.

If you want to keep the naming as it is then you'll have to learn regex and modify https://kodi.wiki/view/Advancedsettings....owmatching

I finally got it to work, no idea what I did different this time compared to the last 3, but it worked with the following config:

  <tvshowmatching>
    <regexp>S([0-9]+)E([0-9]+)</regexp> <!-- foo.S01.E01 -->
  </tvshowmatching>
