I have the similar set up which is working. Having to set 127.0.0.1 is correct but I wonder if your SQL set up is also correct. If I remember the Wiki didn't help me much with the QNAP SQL setup

Check my SQL settings below, snapped from phpMyAdmin as it's what I had to do to get it working. 192.168.0.43 is another Media Box running Kodi that accesses the SQL Database.
