Haven't been here in a while, because my CN60s have both been running great.
But I couldn't pass up this Chromebox 3 for $99 from Walmart.

So, besides upgrading the RAM and maybe the SSD (is it NVME or mSATA?), is there any specific guidance on installing LibreElec to this model?
Thanks Matt and everyone else!

no need to upgrade either the RAM or SATA SSD just for LibreELEC. No special guidance.

Thanks, Matt!
Does this one have a screw removal to access the firmware?
I'll be back once it's been delivered and I am tinkering.

Good day,

Could someone please assist in helping me locate the wiki for restoring the stock firmware after installation of the custom coreboot firmware? The below wiki is empty! I did create a usb with the current/stock firmware so I could revert back at some point.

My Device
Asus ChromeBox CN60

Thanks in advance

the Chromebox wiki page got moved to the archive - see my sig.

You don't want to restore the stock firmware/ChromeOS on a CN60, as the device has been EOL for some time now. Flash my current UEFI firmware, then install whatever OS you want (CloudReady, Linux, Windows, LibreELEC, etc)

Thanks for the quick reply! I have two of these CN60's and both currently have your coreboot firmware with LibreElec installed. Looking at your webpage I'd suspect my firmware (appears to be v4.9) has been in need of an update for quite some time. The latest release was just last month!

The reason I was looking to revert back was to sell these two units. I recently upgraded to a 4K TV and device, so I have no use for them anymore. Although now that I see my options I'm thinking I may install Windows on one of these and use it in my garage.

How would I go about changing the firmware on these to the UEFI? I see I need to run your script but I do not have ChromOS or Linux. I have LibreElec which is as far as I'm aware a read-only OS.

 simply boot a Linux live USB and run from there. Ubuntu works fine, just need to install curl beforehand (sudo apt-get update; sudo apt install curl)

best to start with a clean install

* boot Linux live USB
* install latest UEFI firmware
* reboot
* install latest LE from USB

Hi everyone!

I recently formatted my Chromebox and installed GalliumOS as a replacement for the old Kodibuntu install. After I got everything up and running (SMB share, Airplay etc.) I realized that I really should replace the internal 16 GB SSD with something bigger. There are reasonably priced 256GB M.2 SATA III SSDs over at AliExpress, so I was thinking about getting one. I really don't want to start over again, so I'd prefer to clone the existing drive.

But I've never cloned an SSD on a Linux-based system before. Have anyone done this with their Chromebox before? I've been thinking about buying this M.2 to USB adapter. Is is as simple as inserting the new SSD into this adapter and run a disk cloning program on the Chromebox?

Thanks!

you're looking at this the wrong way:

* use LE backup function to backup to USB/network location
* install new SSD
* install LE
* restore backup

cloning the drive is unnecessary and adds complexity when a simple solution already exists

Sorry for being a noob, but can you point me in the right direction where LE backup software is?

It's located in the LibreELEC Settings Add-on.

Well, I'm using GalliumOS because I also use the device as a Shairport-sync host.
