Solved SMB share from Asus Merlin Router.
#1
Hello folks,

I've been sharing my media through an Asus router with SMB v1 but that's no longer working in Kodi version 19.1.

But my router has wrt-merlin software witch supports SMB v2, so there must be a way to make it work on Leia.

But I'm stumped, how to add my shares in kodi?
- for server name, should I use my routers IP address (192.168.1.1)?
- where to find the path to the shared folder and how to write it in Kodi?

Username and password is the same as my router, I guess? Unless I create another SMB share on my router?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 😊

SMBv1 can work in Kodi v19, but it's not done by default, and it's also not recommended.

By using the "Add network location.." option, fill in all credentials, and "things should work" ™.

If your media files are shared by your router, then you should use that IP address. The routers' firmware should also give you info on that.
Paths to your files shared by your router should not have changed, unless your new wrt-merlin firmware did so.

Are you sure SMB v1 still works in the last version?
I tried to set SMB from v1 to v3 in Kodi advanced settings, but v1 is still not working.

Path is not changed, but how do I write it in Kodi?
When accessing the SMB shares in Windows, the path is something like this:
network/srams-n68u/media/download2/movies

My router name is srams-n68u and hardisk is named MEDIA.

On a side note: I'm always surprised of how fast people are willing to help in this forum, it's just fantastic 😊

Great, because SMBv1 is considered one big block of Swiss cheese when it comes to network security. (google for "WannaCry computer" if you want more details).
