Subtitle choice not remembered for movies in my case
#1
Scenario

My movie files are separate folder for each movie, and all such a folder contains the movie file itself and a further subs subfolder with a .srt subtitle

For example:
/videos/blade runner/blade runner.mp4
/videos/blade runner/subs/2_english.srt
/videos/terminator/terminator.mp4
/videos/terminator/subs/2_english.srt

When I start play a movie, I go to Browse Subtitle, and set the subtitle. It works like charm. (subtitles are enabled by default)

Issue:

When I stop the movie, then play again, KODI does not remember my prev settings, so I have to browse subtitle again.
This behavior both in my Windows KODI 19.1 and Android TV KODI 19.

Question

- Is this by design, or it is an issue, maybe I am missing something, any help appreciated?
- I know, when I download a subtitle (instead of browsing), KODI places it along with the file, to the very same folder and very same as the movie file (+language identifier).srt, so next time KODI finds it, if I previously set it. So as a workaround I can write a script, which copies the English subtitles from /subs folder to the parent and renames them according the movie file. Still I have to spare this work, and also spare the inconvenience periodic running the script, if there is a simpler way.

/videos/blade runner/subs/2_english.srt

Sorry, but creating a subfolder for subtitles only is just weird IMO, plus using a differently formatted subtitle file as well?!? Where you did get the idea for this from?
Just place them in the same folder where the video is location, rename them to "blade runner.en.srt" and "terminator.en.srt" as per the country's language code, and things should work just fine ™.

You can use a single user-selected folder for ALL videos, but not each subtitle in its own subfolder.

neither is my idea :-)

Most of scene releases are using separate subfolder for subtitles, and also most of them are naming subtitle by the language, and also most of them release the movie file in its dedicated subfolder with a subfolder for the subtitle, just I described in my example.

No need to create 2 posts for a reaction... You can edit your posts now.

Kodi has no specific "scene releases" support. So wherever you get your media from, you may have to make changes for Kodi to work properly. We are not going to adjust our modus operandi because the 'scene' works differently.
