When I add a favourite to a file folder or file, there is no thumbnail, which is expected. But changing the favourite's thumbnail is a pain because when doing from within kodi, it only lets me browse for thumbnails on the local device itself and not the network shares that the favourite is pointing to. So then I have to manually edit the favourites.xml to point the thumbnail to an image on my network share, which is not practical for something temporary as a favourite.

Is there a way to make this easier? Would having something like a cover.jpg or <filename>.tbn in the target folder of the favourite cause it to use that for the thumbnail?

I'm guessing any manually created network shares added to the Files section aren't using in the browsing-for-thumbs dialog, which could be one solution.

BTW, .tbn files are a thing of the past.

Yes, I would be happy if the thumbnails dialog supported browsing added media sources.

As for .tbn files, I still use them. I have folders containing both jpg and video media from my cameras. Since kodi doesn't have a home video library feature, I use the Music Video section for that purpose with the help of script-generated nfo files and thumbnails. The generated thumbnails use the extension .tbn to keep them from being included with my normal photos.
