1. What is processing the 1080p sources, an external device running Kodi or the projector itself.

2. Some menu things in Kodi can be triggered directly via internal commands, such as the subtitles download window. I don't know if the same applies to the tone mapping parameters. If those settings are not in the Video OSD, then the answer is probably no. You still could access the Kodi GUI while a video is playing, but new settings won't be applied after (re)starting a video.
