Kodi on Ubuntu 22.10 desktop
#1
Hello, new to the Forum.  Can someone please help me figure out what I have done wrong? I installed Ubuntu 22.10 desktop, minimum install.  Then follow the instructions on the wiki, found on this link: Kodi install for linux

Simple instructions, I am comfortable with executed without flaw:
Code:

sudo apt install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt install kodi

System works I can test it.  Now. for reasons unknown, I can not figure out how to add anything with the "apt-get install" as instructed by the rest of the WIKI Ubuntu binary add-ons:

Code:
sudo apt-get install kodi-audiodecoder-nosefart

Returns:

Code:
E: Unable to locate package kodi-audiodecoder-nosefart

I am sure I mis-read something or have not followed the simple instructions.  Please can someone point me where I have gone wrong?  I have been trying for hours and I am lost.

The team-xbmc repository needs to be read before installing anything from it.
In terminal:

Code:
sudo apt-get update

Then:

Code:
sudo apt install kodi
sudo apt-get install kodi-audiodecoder-nosefart

You need to install kodi again as the system would have installed from the ubuntu repository rather than from the team-xbmc repository.

@DrStein99 nowhere in the above have you followed the instructions given to you in reply #2

You need to to run the command
Quote:sudo apt-get update
after adding the repository. It needs yo be read into your package management system before it sees the packages.

Been a while since I installed Kodi in Ubuntu but:

In your first post you installed the Kodi PPA but didn't do the update so likely you have installed the version of Kodi in the Ubuntu repo and not the Kodi PPA. Shouldn't be a problem once you have "sudo apt-get update" and then "sudo apt-get upgrade" it should upgrade to the version in the Kodi PPA.
Always read the Wiki, FAQ and search the forum before posting.

The Kodi PPA for Kinetic is missing many of the binary add-ons including kodi-audiodecoder-nosefart. It currently only has kodi-pvr-hts and kodi-pvr-nextpvr for addons. kodi-game-libretro-genplus is also there, but it didn't build due to missing dependencies.

These days, Ubuntu does an automatic "apt update" after a new PPA repo has been installed.

I literally installed a blank os on a virtual machine, did the 3 steps:

Code:
sudo apt install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt install kodi

and nothing else but run Kodi, and this is the trouble I am in.

Am I to try the "apt update" after I add the repository and before I install Kodi?  I don't mind erasing this whole thing and doing it again, whatever it takes to get the job done.

The ppa:team-xbmc/ppa does not contain most binary addons for Ubuntu 22.10. So no point using bleeding edge Linux distro unless you are prepared to compile kodi yourself. You can see that even basic stuff such as Inputstream is not available

Your best bet is to go back to Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS, The PPA contains all the binaries for that version and work correctly. see 219 packages for 20.04 as opposed to only 4 for 22.10

Even the latest LTS Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) does not have all the binary packages available. 172 packages available compared to 219 for Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS (Focal Fossa)

I did just that.  Reinstall ubuntu from scratch

Code:
sudo apt purge kodi*

sudo apt install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:team-xbmc/ppa

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install kodi

then try

Code:
sudo apt-get install kodi-audiodecoder-nosefart

Same result.

This has been the best advice yet.  It is actually working.  Thank you very much.
