Solved Loss of HDMI signal When Trying To Play 4K Video
#1
I just rebuilt my HTPC in order to play 4k x.265 video files stored locally and can't get it working on KODI.  There has to be a setting I'm missing somewhere because the hardware should be capable.

Setup is as follows:

4K TV connected to a Denon x4700 AVR connected to an Intel i3 12th Gen 12100 HTPC using integrated graphics running KODI 20. All connections are made with Certified 2.1 HDMI cables.

When I try to play an x.265 4k video either from the NAS or locally from an internal HDD the TV blanks and the HDMI signal is lost. KODI still responds when pressing the stop button and the HDMI signal is restored.  I have narrowed the issue down to the HTPC because a laptop running KODI in the HTPC place will play the 4k x.265 just fine.

I see a bunch of warnings in the debug file along with a couple errors but have no idea what they mean or how to resolve the issue.

do you get different results from intel driver version 31.0.101.4091 or beta version 31.0.101.4123?

I was on 31.0.101.3302 at log file creation.  Just updated to 31.0.101.4091 and the HDMI signal was going in and out. Pressing stop, Kodi had no sound and attempting to exit it just hang.  I will give the Beta drivers a try tomorrow.  I also noticed there is a BIOS update for the MB so I will install that as well.

What happens if you connect it directly to your TV?

I considered giving that a try but ruled out the receiver being an issue by replacing the HTPC with a laptop running Kodi and it worked just fine. If it's not a Kodi setting it's a driver or hardware issue.

Just for the heck of it I connected the HTPC directly to the TV.  Upon playing the 4k video Kodi Crashes. 1080p content plays fine.

Any ideas?

Reset all audio and video settings to default after connecting directly to TV Kodi didn't crash this time and same result as going through receiver......loss of signal.

Bios has been updated and latest drivers installed.  Still not working with Kodi.

Video plays fine in VLC so this is a Kodi issue for sure.

I finally figured it out.  The following settings have to be set exactly as below or 4k will not play:

Player Settings
Adjust display refresh rate > on start/stop

System Display Settings
     Display Mode > Full Screen
Use full screen window > On
