please let xbmc list by the true filename in "my music".
i recently renamed all my mp3's with the song title before the artist so that if i played the entire contents of a directory, which was listed aphabetically, i got a more random playback of songs.
i noticed the latest version of xbmc 2003-12-31, lists files by the mp3 tag and not the true filename this causes a problem cos it means it lists alphabetically by artist instead of song title which means when a directry of mp3's is played, you get large groups of files by the same artitst.
it might be a good idea to offer the choice to list by true filename or by selective fields within the mp3 tag like artist, title, album, year etc.

that may be because you "scanned" the music such that it already created a database.
try removing the albums/mymusic4.db.

that didnt work either, i deleted mymusic4.db but it still lists all the files according to the id3 tag with the artists name first.
it wouldnt be so bad if it listed the files according to the song title. but i still think that being able to list & play all the files according to their true filename would be better cos some mp3,s dont have id3 tags.

i thinks i know where the problems are.
just to experiment, i used xbox media player to create an alphabetical playlist using the file names which it does no problem.
when i load that playlist into xbmc it shuffled it which put all the filenames out of aphabetical order. it seems xbmc shuffles the filelist and i can see no option to turn it off. it also lists all the files within a directory by one of the fields in the id3 tag (usually "title") and there is no way to disable this and have it list by filename.
the combination of these 2 traits ensure that it will never give an alphabetical file listing.
please please someone put this right....

damn i must be going mad...
just realised that i needed to disable both "shuffle playlist on load" in the general settings menu and "disable id3 tags" in the music settings menu.
now everything is working fine..
