I did a fresh install of Debian stable on a raspberry pi 3B. Then I made an upgrade to unstable, followed by the installation of Kodi 20.2
The subtitles, both external with .srt or .ass, or internal, aren't displayed.

From a collection of videos, used for various testing, in the site of mplayer

It's from the movie 'Tron', if I'm not mistaken, audio english/german, and the same for subtitles
Please note that I had the same problem with all the videos that I tried.
