v20 Copacetic for Kodi Nexus (v20) - From the official repo
(2024-03-22, 18:03)realcopacetic Wrote: Hi yes, I believe this is due to an issue with the versions currently in the official Kodi repo. Are you installing directly from the kodi Repo?
I will push an update shortly, but in the meantime, I believe if you update from my third-party addon instead it should remedy the issue. Details to do that in the first post.
Many thanks for the swift reply!

If I recall correctly I actually found this skin via a Reddit post so I wasn't even aware that it was in the official Kodi repo until very recently.

I installed via the GitHub repo and everything has updated from there since that point. Not entirely sure, but I believe the black screen issue started on helper update from 1.0.8 to 1.0.9.

I'm having trouble replicating this bug.

Can you confirm a few things for me please?
1) Is the issue when you go to Settings > Copacetic > General > Menus > Home menu and then on a specific item in your menu, you're choosing 'Select Background'? Or are you choosing a custom global override for ALL menu shortcuts (Settings > Copacetic > Background, enable 'Override home background with global slideshow' and choose a custom source under 'Limit background slideshow artwork to...'
2) What sources are you using for the background? Is it an image, a multimage or a playlist/library path?
3) Do the default slideshows work? (For movies shortcut it would show movies fanarts, for Tv shows shortcut it would tv show fanarts, for Music shortcuts, it would show artist fanarts etc)
4) Do the global slideshows work? You can see these on home screen by going to (settings > Copacetic > Background, enable 'override home background with global slideshow'). You should also see the selected global slideshow on other windows e.g. Settings screen, addons etc.
3) Do you have videos in your Kodi library or do you use plugins for your content?

After the latest update some of my TV Shows seem to be darkened out (see picture). I have a homescreen widget that is set up to show Trending, which gets its information from Trakt within the TMDB Helper addon.
Also when i go into TMDB Helper all of the TV Shows are blacked out too. Movies show fine. This has only started to happen after the latest update to 1.1.21. Just wondered if there was some kind of option i was missing in setting to remove this 'blacked out' feature? Thanks

1) The former is exactly the issue I'm having - the background from 'Select background' is the one no longer displaying. Global slideshow is set to off
2) Single .jpg images. I've stored these in the media folder within the .kodi folder
3) Default slideshows seem to work fine
4) I haven't had the chance to test this yet
5) I don't use the library functionality, rather all my media is stored in the cloud and I stream it via a plugin

It seems odd to me that the background suddenly stopped displaying after something updated somewhere, but as I can't pinpoint exactly what it was as the root cause and you can't replicate it at your end that would seem to suggest that it may not be related to the skin or helper at all. I'm going to try torching the install and seeing if going from scratch resolves the issue. Will report back!

Thanks for sharing, that's certainly not intentional and I can't think of anything recently changed that would touch this. Let me check tonight and try and fix it!

Before you do anything I think it could be related to number 5. I think I used a condition in some places that library must have content. Will check and update!

Edit: Yep I think this was it. I'll fix and push an update asap.

One question for you. So on the settings screen and other places like Addons etc, you just get a black screen right? I think that's why I had the condition that library has to have content, because on those screens, the global slideshow should show backgrounds from your library. I'm currently trying to think of a way to fetch fanarts from plugins for use in the global slideshows, so hopefully I can come up with something for this soon.

Yes, that's correct - black screens only for Addons and so on. I co-opted the Movie and TV Show links that existed in the skin prior and pointed them at my cloud library rather than the Kodi one. At that point I added custom backgrounds to these links so I wasn't just staring at a black screen when I fired Kodi up. Was working until recently.

I just nuked my install and have only the skin installed plus a log viewer. Can confirm that trying to set a custom background on a Home link returns just a black screen. Guessing that's what your update will be addressing so thanks for looking at this.

@loki00 I figured out the issue - I recently changed the matching expression for the nowplaying overlay to work better for library items by matching actual ID between what's shown on the screen and what's in the player instead of the previous, which matched the name and the year. Because the DBID is empty for plugin items, it's creating a false match and fading the items because it thinks they are playing. I'll push a fix for this today

@keepitnang I believe I have fixed this issue and I'll update my repo today. Furthermore, I've added the option that you can set a path to a plugin and then it will use this path to fetch fanarts for use in the global slideshows, which can override the home menu items but are also used on settings screens/Addon screens etc. E.g. If you choose a custom path and navigate to Addon > Video Addon > TMDBHelper and choose a directory, e.g. Trending movies this week, it will use fanarts from those movies to populate your backgrounds. Hopefully this is preferable to black screens! If I've done it right in Settings > Copacetic > Background, you should automatically see the option for Custom Path, as the other options (Movies, TV Shows, Artists etc) all rely on library content, so I've disabled those options if your library is empty. Can you let me know if this works ok for you?

These updates should be on my repo later today/this evening (UK time).

Thanks

This will be an excellent addition to the skin - thank you!

I'll look out for the update later for sure and let you know how it goes.

@realcopacetic - just updated to version 1.1.22 and happy to confirm that custom backgrounds displaying again and that setting a global background from an add-on seems to work fine too. Lovely job.
