Beta Madnox (Omega) (WIP - Active Dev)
This is a complete bust.... my timer started at 1hr :18 min... and it has 50 minutes are left, it just GETTING to apollo 13. I am noticing in the task manager, the peak network speed it is pulling is around 1.4mbps... Nexus was pulling peaks of 45-60mbps... there is clearly something wrong here.

No offense, but Omega can kiss my ass.

And already on P?? Come on.

They are both portable mode, both release, I don't get it.

I'll switch the skin to Estuary and do a library pull and see if that changes anything.

It took 53 seconds to parse the file "babylon" I timed it... this using Estuary. So this isn't a skin problem, this is an Omega problem.

Bad boys for life (2020), 46 seconds... yeah, I'm at a loss here...

If you have a fresh install of Nexus you could use the database files from that and delete the new Omega ones? Just let it migrate the old DB.

Could be wrong but it looks like you copied your old stuff into the portable data folder? I'd suggest trying again but start with a completely empty portable_data folder. Don't copy anything beforehand, maybe manually install the skin and enable it in the addon browser. It might be easier to install my skin from the Kodi repo first so you get skin shortcuts and all the little modules needed for it. The script.color.picker popup in home.xml and requirement in addon.xml should ideally be removed, it's not really necessary for the skin to function. It can be added to the buttons that call the script instead and... while typing this I just made all those changes...

For 1,384 movies? I would expect 15 minutes at most if you are using all local info.
To check my memory wasn't fooling me, I added my 6 movie sources with 617 movies and all local info to my test setup. Scanned all movies in 3min 58 sec.
5 of those Sources are across a SMB network.

Why? It's been stable for me for over a year.

So what I did, I nuked everything in D:\Appz\Kodi_Portables\Omega, I downloaded as zip the current Omega from your Github. I installed Omega into the folder as nuked, installed your zip and it completed the install. I went into settings, add video, browsed to X:\Movies which is NFS to my Synology NAS shared folder and let it go.

It never completed and my updates of what it did are above.

If my methodology is incorrect, please advise. I will be happy to start over, create a video of exactly what I describe here to show if maybe there is something I missed.

That time I provided was via Nexus as mentioned deleting all of the "movies", letting it clean the database, re-add, local scraper only, each movie in own folder, all artwork local.... which I'll be responding to Karellen in after I post this.

Maybe I've been doing it wrong all along, I don't know.

This was all done on my office machine....and the install is on a 3TB spinner drive.... but one data point I can provide to you is that when Omega was scanning, that drive was at 100% utilization which I've never seen before.... and hdtach shows it can do up to 320mbps transfer speeds using a quick bench... so I found that suspect that Omega was jamming that drive that hard... I only noticed it AFTER the Nexus test so I can not tell you what the Nexus utilization is, but it clearly must be less since Nexus actually finishes and doesn't crash out randomly.

Is there a price penalty for SMB vs NFS?

I've yet to have Omega have a successful scan, so my experience thus far has been less than stellar. If I can't even load my library, hard to praise Omega when you are providing vastly different performance metrics.

If you told me that it took 45 minutes which would be about 1/2.... I'd be like ok...but what your saying gives me great pause that I'm doing it wrong... I'd really like to know what that is.

I'd upload my log, but it is a bit big at 33MB.
I've not used NFS, so can't comment on speed difference, but haven't noticed many comments on the forum about it either. I've always been happy with the native Windows SMB, rather than trying to fiddle with NFS. It handles Bluray rips without issue. Don't have any full UHD Blurays to test.

Can you do a test. Keep it really simple. You are on Windows, so should be really easy.
Rename your \Roaming\Kodi\ folder to Kodi-old
Start Kodi and let it recreate a fresh \Kodi\ folder.
Don't add a single thing to it. No addons, no skins. Leave it as is.
Add your Sources and scan to library. Capture it in a Debug Log.
How long does it take?
If it still takes a long time, can you change one of your sources to SMB and try again?

I just finished dinner, I'll do this shortly, before I do, this is running in portable mode, does anything change in the method?

If you are testing a new install then it seems odd seeing the things installed that I do. I see your repo, another repo, some not too trustworthy sounding ezmaintenance script, and multiple other skins including an old one of mine that is not available on the Kodi repo anymore... Huh

With all those things installed on a supposed to be fresh install something certainly seems incorrect.

If you delete the portable_data folder and launch Kodi you should see Estuary and have no library at all. Can you try again by deleting the portable_data folder and starting Kodi? Enable debug logging, restart Kodi, and post the debug log. There should be only the addons installed by default. If that's the case add the skin and try scanning the library again. Try not to install any other addons besides script.skinshortcuts and script.image.resource.select that should install automatically if installing from this zip file. Ignore the popup saying to install script.embuary.helper.

Those logs where pre nuke, but the ez script I've used for years, it is to clear the cache on start because it is being used on a fire tv stick device and it has limited space. All the nuked stuff, none of that is put back in. I will try the methods outline as now.

Working on it....but it was just as slow following Mike's method.....exactly.

Here is a partial log:

https://paste.kodi.tv/ijiregoyah.kodi

I'm on my laptop now and I'm seeing the same behavior with the spinner 2TB drive.... low I/O transfer rates compared to the drives capability.
