I can not recommend involving Kali or other unofficial repos either. First, the security updates for ffmpeg, mesa and dozens of other packaged dependencies will be missimg. Second, I am not even sure Kali repod for bookworm will not destroy Debian stable or turn it to Kali rolling similar to Debian sid. If you really want v21 fast, go with testing+sid+experimental - this will be still pure Debian with all security guarantees it provides.

OK, migration to testing has been resumed so I will upload 21.0 this weekend! And will do backport of 20.5 for bookworm-bpo and initiate 20.5 imto bookworm-proposed-updates.

Do you know if this by any chance includes a recent compiled inputstream.adaptive package?

21.0 for bookworm can be shipped only in backports as it targets ffmpeg 6.0. But 20.x branch of inputstream.adaptive is latest in bookworm via kodi-inputstream-adaptive package. Is there anything with that version of IA that does not work as expected?

Retrospect requires at least version 20.3.5 of IA.

If test/sid debian repositories with a bit of pinning is not for you (you, as in whoever reads this), I recommend, that an unofficial repo for sure is not anything for you. Adding other repositories (including test/sid) needs careful selection on packages to be used. It is not just an "installation source" as you have it with Kodi repositories. You risk integrity of your whole system, as apt might upgrade/change packages you do not want to.
Debian is still aimed on servers, hence neglects all sorts of things for multimedia. Happy to have @basigello that he maintains this kodi version.

So where do you get the dependencies from? Same question for the unofficial repository. Either way the debian package has dependencies, that are not needed, or the other installation methods ignore them?

I have a question, i recently switched from libreelec to debian (testing) and everything is working fine.
Expect for two things, its still kodi 20, thats how i ended up in this thread but thats coming, so all good.

The other thing is that i noticed that some of the fonts in kodi are not looking like they used to do.
The clock for example doesnt look the same as it did in libreelec, i assume it falls back to another font.

The bug you mentioned is about slightly different thing: it is about representation of the name of the package holding the font. The two names pointed to single package since 2018 or so (even before I first installed Kodi!) - that's why I haven't closed this bug yet (but I will because buster can not be updated anymore!)

What you do see though is different font from those used in LibreELEC. I am not sure which font is used there, but here it is Arial. You can choose any other font you like via Kodi settings - Interface - Fonts.

So there was a small update for Kodi in Debian Testing today (might have been the last few days). It didn't look like a big change, versions have moved from b1 to b2, so presuming a bugfix of some kind. However, Kodi won't actually launch now and I can't see anything useful in the logs.
