When watching something on Kodi, if I pause the video and go take care of something, when I come back it has shut down and I have to restart Kodi from the beginning and then find my place in the video. Is there a way to extend the amount of time I have from once I pause it until I return? It seems like I have maybe 4 or 5 minutes before it cuts me off. Please tell me there is a way to extend that amount of time.

That is not a default or even configurable behavior in Kodi. Unless it crashes, once you start Kodi it keeps running. You'll need to provide some more details about your system, including the OS on which you are running Kodi and debug logs showing the problem.

Do you think a reinstall might solve the problem. Would that maybe be the quickest and easiest way to resolve this?

One thing you could try is adjusting the screensaver or power settings on your device. Sometimes Kodi can shut down if it thinks the system is idle for too long. Check out the settings under "System" or "Power" in Kodi's menu and see if you can tweak the timeout settings there. That might give you more time before it decides to close.
