Fantastic, now test with this other to make sure is not already fixed in v21.0 nightlies:

I'm still unable to reproduce this issue. Tested also on Sony TV (arm-v7) with Play Store version and default settings.

Tried the above. That one still has the SRT problem.

Does your test build include the fix in that one? Or should we wait until your fix makes into the latest nightlies?

No, this one was already expected to fail. You can continue using the previous one until the final solution arrives.

I am having trouble upgrading from v20.5 to v21.0. I get stuck on the “migrating database” screen. See log: https://paste.kodi.tv/odaforavaw.kodi

I force stopped the app and tried starting it again and got stuck on the splash screen. See log: https://paste.kodi.tv/eyexevuyah.kodi

I run kodi on two nvidia shields with a shared database on a synology nas. I have checked the database and Kodi_Video131 exists and has the same number entries as Kodi_Video122. I also checked that each IDFile in the database is unique.

Any help appreciated.

@Tyreless the music db seems ok but Kodi_Video131 is not because of an issue with the 122 database.
That database version is unusual for non-developers, and was probably created by an early v21 nightly version ran at some point.
That 122 database is corrupt to a certain degree (doesn't have is version table).

Kodi 20.5 uses the 121 database, that's the one that needs to migrate to 131. 122 is in the way. I'd say back it up and delete it.
Then start one of the shields (with debug log on just in case you have something else to report).
Always read the Kodi online-manual, the FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail Kodi Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules (wiki).

Many thanks, that fixed it.

Kodi Omega is crashing when initiating a 4k file (movie/tv show). I am using a Nvidia tube, real-debrid service, 1GB down ISP. I believe my setting within kodi and addons are all set to 4k. I'll check on the kodi website if I have missed anything, but your thoughts are appreciated.
When I click on a 4k file, the tv goes black, then comes back with the running time in white in the upper left hand corner, then the screen goes black again. When it comes back I am out of kodi on the Nvidia main screen. I am having no issue playing 1080 files.

BTW I tried uploading the log last night.  The uploader gave me a QR scan to do so - what's up with that?

Then you're violating our piracy policy (wiki) by using such a service, and no support is offered here to such devices as per the forum rules (wiki) that you accepted and agreed to abide by when you signed up here.

The uploader gives you a URL both as a string and a QR code to obtain the link - either can be used to supply the URL here but any log that contains piracy banned addons (wiki) will be binned for the reasons given above.

Hi.  I just discovered an odd problem related to the v21 upgrade.  I have a few MKV files (3 that I've identified so far) that no longer display chapters.  The chapters are there, but when playing with Kodi v21 it acts like there are no chapters; no chapters are displayed in the bookmarks menu, and Up/Down skip by 10 minutes.

I'm sure this is an issue with v21 specifically because if I revert back to 20.0.5, the chapters load/function correctly as expected.

Here's a complete debug log where I launch Kodi, play one of the affected videos, then quit.  You can see in the debug file that chapters are reported by the metadata printed by ffmpeg beginning at line 1655.

Code:
2024-07-02 00:44:17.331 T:2744    debug <general>: GetExternalStreamDetailsFromFilename - Language = '' / Name = '(External)' / Flag = '0' from /home/media/data/videos/Performances/Distant Worlds/Returning Home/Returning Home.mkv
2024-07-02 00:44:17.331 T:2744     info <general>: Skipped 1 duplicate messages..
2024-07-02 00:44:17.331 T:2744  warning <general>: underflow: Error reading file - assuming eof
2024-07-02 00:44:17.331 T:2744     info <general>: Skipped 1 duplicate messages..

Those lines appear when reading files exhibiting the problem; they do not for files that load correctly.  Error reading file sounds like maybe it could be due to some kind of corrupt file, but I'm as confident as I can be that's not the case - these are my own rips transcoded with handbrake.  Everything else (including Kodi 20.0.5) plays them fine.

Before I confirmed that older Kodi plays them fine I explored that corrupt file angle more... I tried using mkvextract and mkvmerge to extract the chapters, strip them from the original file, then mux a new file with the chapters re-attached.  I'm able to do all of that fine, but still get the same result with 21.0.

The only other thing I can think to mention that might be related is that my videos are on an NFS share, which I mount through Linux rather than Kodi itself.  I really don't think that should matter for this, but I found other comments about caching changes introduced in v21 causing odd problems with CIFS shares.

Any ideas?

What other info can I provide to help with troubleshooting?
