Solved New Install with SMB Issues
#1
Hi all, Ive been using Kodi for many years but have had my gear in storage for about 5 years including the HTPC that Kodi runs on.

Since then, Ive read that SMBv1 is no longer supported. I also have added a number of new HDDs to the host machine whilst the machine was in storage.

Upon setting up the old machine and adding the new HDDs I noticed an SMB Preferences Lock message. But this only appeared with certain HDDs, not with all.

Ive followed the official Kodi Wiki for setting up new shares and couldnt get it working so Ive deleted my Kodi install and am starting again but Im still having issues with adding an SMB share.

The issue seems to be an incorrect password. When entering the password for the SMB share, is this the password and username required the same as the ones used to log into the host machine?

I also share an entire drive rather than individual folders as my movies are stored in individual folders with the movie name as the title, is sharing the drive ok for SMBv2?

Im a bit out of my depth here, I havnt had to set up Kodi in well over 10 years and my 76 year old brain isnt computing.

Can someone help with why SMBs arent working please?

Aha!!. so each folder (or in my case, HDD) requires its own indiviualy SMB share rather than the old method of having an entire PC with certain folders (HDDs) shared?

So yes this worked.

The only thing that didnt work for me is when adding the shares through File Manager. They wouldnt show when adding a source for movies so I just added all drives as individual shares via this section instead of via File Manager. Seem to be owrking, so will this be ok?

Why do you want to add your sources to the File Manager? Add them through Videos>Files.
You are using Windows, which is a full OS, so there is no need for you to use File Manager in Kodi.

The instructional you linked me to says to add through File Manager.
Have I misunderstood this?

ah, bugger. Sorry, I have not read that page in full, and if I did, it was a long time ago. I only meant you to read the second post to turn off password sharing.

Honestly, I have no idea what jjd-uk was trying to do in that section you read.

Give me a minute while I fix an error I noticed on another page, and I will give you another link.

https://kodi.wiki/view/SMB

In section 3.1, this shows how to browse your share and add Sources.
You do this via Videos>Files from the main menu.
In your case, there is no reason to use the File Manager. Thats more for Android and other limited Operating systems.

And this is how to set up your library... https://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_video_sources
