I created a .disc file called Have Gun- Will Travel inside a folder with the same name. Kodi found the show and scraped the proper information.

When I click on "play," nothing happens. I assume I need to add episode information. Some places suggested I have to add a file for each episode; some do not and suggest one file per season.

Is there a correct, current method?

I've also read each TV season should be in each own folder. (Currently I have all my TV shows in a separate folder and each show's seasons in one folder. I have not had any issues so not sure why each season should be in its own folder.

No, not necessary.

Why should it play? You are adding a disc file, which is just an empty file, so there is nothing to play.
Why are you using disc files instead of proper video files?

Yes. How many files you want is depends on what you are trying to achieve.
Normally 1 file per episode is needed using the S01E01 naming convention.

I am sorry I was not clear. When I hit play, I do not get the message Insert Disk. Indeed, I edited the .disc file and still no pop up message comes up.

In the past, in stub movies, it would suggest Insert Disk. I am trying to get it to do the same thing for TV Shows.

Ah, that is better. I understand.
Yes, you definitely need episode files to have the message come up.
A TV Show is not a playable item, the episodes are. You don't need a disc file for the tv show.

Are you unable to rip your disks?

Yes I have ripped quite a few. But I have a few shows I wanted in the Kodi library as I reminder I have them, without taking up my storage space.

Ok. If that is the case, then do you really need the disk file? Wouldn't it be enough to just have the TV show without episodes as the reminder? Or maybe just the first episode with the disk file.
Have you got it working now?

I assume you have checked out this wiki page... https://kodi.wiki/view/Media_stubs

Yes, I have it working now!

Originally the disc file, Have Gun- Will Travel.disc was all I had and the show did show up. But I wanted to have the messaging to convey additional information.

--Having one file for each season does provide a bit more information as I see it now with the pics.

Thank you for the years of support now. With your faithful assistance, my library in Kodi is now 2k movies and 21k tv episodes. Most from my HDHomerun tuner. Over 32TB of storage and all backed up to another 32TB. Been quite a hobby. Again, your help has been instrumental in my learning the ropes of this platform.

Nice. I hope you have taken care to backup the library. ie, local artwork and regular export to nfo files.
