i get a playback failed message every time i start up kodi, its not like when i actually go to play something it fails, i have no issues with that. its just really annoying to see a (seemingly) meaningless error on start up

The log didn't have debug turned on, consequently the provided log doesn't show enough to come to any viable conclusions. Kodi default version doesn't play anything on start, perhaps there has been some installation issue. Suggest deleting the guisettings.xml in the userdata folder (Kodi will rebuild on next launch).

good to know about debugging, but weirdly enough i was having crashing issues so i cleaned every last trace of kodi off of my pc (as far as i could tell) and reinstalled it totally clean and i immediately got the error message again. all ive done is use the command "yay kodi" to install and yet im still getting a playback error despite (as you stated) not playing anything on start up
