Hi, I have been running Kodi for years, I just got a few video files that are AV1 encoded, no joy, just audio plays...
latest version of Kodi 21 I belive...
Nvidia Shield Pro 2017 ver  I think....

any direction?  I tried installing the vimeo add on, no change...

Enable debug logging in system settings, restart Kodi and attempt to play one of these files, exit and upload kodi.log file contents to https://paste.kodi.tv/

Grab the link to your post there and provide it here.  As a general idea, on playback error go into player settings for video and experiment with the different video render options.  (settings level must be advancved or expert to see this option)

Pretty sure the Shield doesn't support AV1 as it's a newish codec.

there should still be a software codec I would think...  the CPU on these is still pretty respectable even today...

What type of resolutions are these? as software decode of 4K AV1 would struggle even on a powerful Intel desktop. It's a very demanding codec which requires a lot of computational power if there's no baked in hardware support. A debug log (wiki) would show what going on.
