At least the option to use the configured Android keyboard would save me A LOT of time. The main problem is that I can't use apps to control the keyboard. I know, there are specific Kodi remote apps, but in my mind this shouldn't be necessary.

I guess the answer to my question is that some addons rely on it? I would still like to be able to choose.

I am controlling my nvidia shield with the nvidia shield remote app on my phone.

whenever the tv shows the default android keyboard, the remote app on my phone mirrors this, making typing a 1000% better experience since I can do it on my phone.

installing another application on my phone specifically for typing inside kodi is... not a great experience.
